About The Position

The job of “Drama Technical Assistant” is responsible for assisting with the elements of technical theatre including safety and stage management and set construction, properties, lighting and sound design and implementation. The Technical Assistant supports the technical crew members through the construction, rehearsal and performance phases of Olympia High School Drama Club/thespian productions. Requirements

  • Experience working in technical theatre
  • Familiarity with theatrical sound, lighting, and rigging systems
  • Experience operating power tools and constructing structurally sound structures
  • Experience working with young students
  • Criminal Justice Fingerprint Clearance
  • Current First Aid/CPR Certification
  • Ability, by use of required skills, to motivate student athletes, communicate with individuals and groups from varied educational and cultural backgrounds; work cooperatively with other coaches, administrators, staff, and support personnel; organize and manage assigned aspects of the assigned sport/activity; and support District/building philosophy/goals and objectives for student activities.
  • Abilities to stand and walk for prolonged periods, perform a variety of specialized and responsible tasks, maintain records, establish and maintain cooperative professional working relationships with students, parents, other school personnel and meet schedule and established deadlines.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience working in technical theatre, familiarity with theatrical sound, lighting and rigging systems preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Availability for three productions per year, including two mainstage plays and a spring musical
  • Commitment to be present for any needed technical work
  • Rehearsals are between the hours of 3:30 and 6:00 Monday through Friday, as well as some Saturday work calls
  • Tech rehearsals will have longer hours, to be discussed
  • Periodic design meetings with student leads
  • Supervising students working in the PAC on construction projects and rigging tasks, ensuring safe practices and healthy work culture
  • Guiding student designers in collaborating with one another
  • Helping students adhere to deadlines and complete tasks fully
  • Communicating with OHS Theatre Troupe Director about needed supplies, safety concerns, or other technical needs
  • Managing physical spaces, including the scene shop and PAC space, ensuring that supplies and equipment are stored safely and are well organized
  • Engaging in physically demanding work, including lifting items exceeding 50 pounds
