About The Position

As an Engineering Designer, you will play a pivotal role in the planning and delivery of complex transportation infrastructure projects, leading key design efforts and serving as a technical resource for drainage engineering. In this role, you’ll be responsible for developing and coordinating stormwater management solutions, performing hydraulic and hydrologic analyses, and designing drainage conveyance systems that support safe, efficient, and resilient transportation networks. You’ll apply sound engineering judgment to evaluate design alternatives, solve complex technical challenges, and ensure compliance with applicable standards and client requirements. Working closely with project engineers, project managers, and multidisciplinary teams, you’ll help drive projects from concept through final design, ensuring the delivery of accurate, cost-effective, and constructible solutions. In addition to your technical responsibilities, you’ll provide guidance and mentorship to junior designers, contribute to quality control and design reviews, and support the continuous improvement of design processes and best practices. Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree in civil engineering.
  • 2+ years of Texas transportation drainage design experience.
  • Engineer in Training (EIT) certification.
  • Experience with MicroStation & OpenRoads Designer.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the preparation of detailed drainage design plans, specifications, technical reports, and cost estimates for transportation infrastructure projects, including stormwater management, roadway drainage, culverts, and conveyance systems.
  • Perform advanced hydraulic and hydrologic analyses using industry-standard software and engineering principles to evaluate drainage performance, mitigate flood risks, and develop effective design solutions.
  • Ensure drainage designs comply with applicable federal, state, and local regulations, as well as client standards and project requirements, while maintaining a strong focus on quality, safety, and constructability.
  • Coordinate drainage design efforts with roadway, bridge, utility, survey, and environmental disciplines to ensure seamless project integration and successful delivery of multidisciplinary transportation projects.
  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior designers and engineering staff, offering guidance on design development, best practices, software applications, and quality assurance procedures.
  • Support project engineers and project managers with design reviews, quality control and quality assurance efforts, schedule management, client coordination, and the successful delivery of drainage-related project milestones and deliverables.
