As a Drainage Design Engineer, you will apply hydrologic and hydraulic engineering principles to plan, analyze, and design drainage infrastructure for transportation and roadway improvement projects. Working with multidisciplinary teams and under senior engineers’ guidance, you will help develop innovative, cost-effective stormwater management solutions, including storm sewer systems, culverts, open channels, detention and retention facilities, roadway drainage networks, and hydraulic structures. You will perform drainage analyses, prepare engineering calculations, develop construction plans and technical reports, and support the evaluation of flood risks, watershed impacts, and regulatory compliance. You will use industry-standard design software and modeling tools to assess system performance and ensure designs meet applicable federal, state, and local transportation agency standards, drainage criteria, and environmental regulations. As your experience grows, you will take increasing ownership of project deliverables, coordinate with internal and external stakeholders, help resolve complex engineering challenges, and contribute to project planning and execution. This hybrid role operates between an office and field environment and may involve occasional exposure to inclement weather, heat, humidity, noise, hazards, atmospheric conditions, and bodies of water, depending on project requirements.
