About The Position

Under the direction of teachers and school leaders, supports students in core subject areas (e.g. math, reading, writing, science and social studies) or in the students' native languages. As directed, remains aware of student problems/progress/achievements and reports to the supervising teacher. Supports teacher(s) in preparing classroom, managing student behavior and reporting difficulties as appropriate. Students who do this work will work during non-scheduled class times at campus District elementary, middle school or early childcare learning center. Current District students who meet the eligibility as a teaching assistant must keep information confidential and will work under the direction of teachers and school leaders. The purpose of this role is for students to gain some experience in education and support students in areas where they need extra support.

Responsibilities

  • Helps prepare classroom as directed for lessons, clear afterwards and assists with the display of students work
  • Supports supervising teacher(s) in helping students understand instructions and curriculum, preparing and maintaining equipment/resources and assisting students in their use.
  • Supports school by complying with policies and procedures relating to child protection, health, safety, security, confidentiality and data protection, reporting all concerns to an appropriate person; maintains knowledge of support differences and ensures all students have equal access to opportunities to learn and develop; and contributes to the overall ethos/work/aims of the school
  • Under direction of teacher(s), sets strong and measurable individual goals and delivers expected results, demonstrating accountability to plans and milestones; solves problems effectively and escalates appropriately
  • Contributes to meaningful conversations around equity and barriers to success for all students
  • Undertakes basic student record keeping and other duties, as requested
