Operate one or several types of power construction equipment to excavate, move and/or grade material. This role requires operating a variety of vehicles and large heavy equipment while performing maintenance and repairs on roads and rights-of-way, including loading, hauling, and dumping on smooth to extremely rough surfaces. Responsibilities include loading gravel, dirt, and sand; smoothing and grading roads; spreading rock and gravel; trenching and constructing ditches for culverts, water pipes, and sewer pipes; and removing silt and debris. The operator must be knowledgeable about checking and maintaining all fluid levels and lubrication for equipment. They may also be asked to instruct and train employees in the safe operation of construction equipment and tools, and in job techniques and skills. Additionally, the role involves inspecting equipment, structures, or materials to identify the cause of errors or defects, and estimating sizes, distances, and quantities, or determining time, costs, resources, or materials needed for a work activity. The position also requires inspecting subordinate's work for compliance with contract plans and specifications, pointing out deficiencies, and taking corrective action.
