About The Position

Stefanini Group is seeking a DOT Safety Manager to support innovative transportation solutions that combine commercial motor vehicle safety with next-generation autonomous technology. This role is critical for operational readiness, regulatory compliance, safety governance, and continuous improvement. The Safety & Compliance Manager will lead the development, implementation, oversight, and continuous improvement of safety and compliance programs for both commercial motor vehicle and autonomous transportation operations. This position requires close collaboration with Operations, Engineering, Uptime, Human Resources, Customer Success, and external stakeholders to ensure operational excellence and regulatory compliance.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Transportation, Supply Chain, Safety, Logistics, Engineering, or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum 7 years of experience in transportation safety, compliance, fleet operations, risk management, law enforcement, or related field.
  • Strong working knowledge of: FMCSA Regulations, Driver Qualification Requirements, Hours-of-Service Rules, Vehicle Inspection and Maintenance Programs, Drug & Alcohol Testing Programs, Accident Investigation Processes, OSHA Reporting Requirements.
  • Demonstrated experience conducting audits, inspections, investigations, and regulatory compliance reviews.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and analytical skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience supporting autonomous vehicle operations, advanced transportation technologies, robotics, or emerging mobility solutions.
  • Prior experience as a Safety Director, Compliance Manager, Motor Carrier Enforcement Officer, Commercial Vehicle Inspector, Law Enforcement Officer, or related transportation leadership role.
  • Knowledge of Safety Management Systems (SMS), Operational Risk Management, CAPA programs, and Safety Case methodologies.
  • Experience with telematics and fleet-management systems such as Geotab, Samsara, Motive, Lytx, or equivalent platforms.
  • Experience developing policies, procedures, manuals, and controlled documentation.
  • Professional certifications such as CDS, CSP, ASP, CSHO, CHMM, or equivalent are a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and maintain safety and compliance programs supporting company operations.
  • Interpret and apply FMCSA, DOT, OSHA, and applicable state regulations.
  • Monitor organizational compliance through audits, inspections, observations, and performance reviews.
  • Maintain oversight of Driver Qualification Files (DQFs), Hours-of-Service compliance, vehicle records, accident registers, drug and alcohol program requirements, and maintenance compliance documentation.
  • Coordinate responses to regulatory audits, investigations, inspections, and compliance reviews.
  • Monitor industry regulatory developments and recommend changes to company programs and procedures.
  • Participate in Operational Safety Assessments (OSAs), Safety Compliance Reviews (SCRs), and operational readiness reviews for new routes, facilities, and transportation deployments.
  • Support the development, maintenance, review, and validation of Operational Safety Case evidence and assurance activities.
  • Evaluate operational hazards and risks associated with autonomous transportation operations and recommend mitigation strategies.
  • Support launch-readiness reviews and operational change-management activities.
  • Coordinate safety interfaces between operational teams, engineering organizations, technology partners, and third-party service providers.
  • Assist with investigations involving autonomous vehicle operations, system interventions, operational anomalies, and safety-related incidents.
  • Lead internal compliance audits and operational safety assessments.
  • Manage corrective and preventive action (CAPA) processes and track resolution of findings.
  • Analyze compliance trends, performance metrics, incidents, inspections, audits, and operational observations.
  • Conduct periodic management reviews of program effectiveness and recommend improvements.
  • Support development and implementation of continuous improvement initiatives across safety and compliance programs.
  • Prepare reports, dashboards, presentations, and executive summaries regarding safety performance and regulatory compliance.
  • Participate in incident management, emergency response, and crisis-management activities.
  • Lead or support investigations involving vehicle incidents, injuries, property damage, regulatory events, and operational disruptions.
  • Coordinate root-cause analyses and corrective action development.
  • Maintain OSHA reporting and injury recordkeeping requirements.
  • Ensure proper evidence preservation, documentation, and reporting in accordance with company procedures and regulatory requirements.
  • Develop, coordinate, and deliver safety, regulatory compliance, and operational readiness training programs.
  • Maintain training records and compliance documentation.
  • Administer learning management systems and training portals.
  • Provide coaching and guidance to operations personnel, drivers, field technicians, dispatch personnel, and other stakeholders regarding safety and compliance requirements.
  • Ensure qualification, authorization, onboarding, and recurrent training requirements are maintained for operational personnel.
  • Maintain controlled safety and compliance documentation, including manuals, policies, procedures, forms, standards, and records.
  • Support document control processes and audit readiness initiatives.
  • Ensure safety and compliance records are accurate, secure, traceable, and retained in accordance with legal and company requirements.
  • Assist in the development and maintenance of operational safety manuals, transportation compliance manuals, and related governance documentation.
  • Support engagement with regulatory agencies, law enforcement organizations, industry associations, and customers.
  • Assist with roadside inspection review programs and regulatory correspondence.
  • Participate in industry forums, working groups, and collaborative initiatives supporting transportation safety and autonomous vehicle deployment.
  • Foster productive relationships with enforcement and regulatory stakeholders to support safe and compliant operations.
