This field-based role is ideal for entry-level technicians or recent tech school graduates looking to launch their careers in fleet maintenance. You will be responsible for performing DOT inspections on Class 6-8 trucks and trailers, ensuring vehicles meet federal safety and compliance standards. You will be equipped with a fully equipped, company-provided service vehicle and supported by a team that values your skill, drive, and dedication.

Requirements

  • Diesel, automotive, or heavy-duty vehicle technical training (technical school, apprenticeship, or equivalent hands-on experience) preferred.
  • Familiarity with DOT inspection standards and out-of-service criteria, or willingness to learn.
  • Strong communication skills – you know how to connect and communicate with customers and drivers alike.
  • Comfortable using mobile apps, navigation systems and digital tools to stay organized and document repairs.
  • Ready for the outdoors – rain or shine at customer yards.
  • Independent, dependable, and self-motivated – you take pride in getting the job done right.
  • A positive attitude and safety-first mindset.
  • Must be 23+ with a clean driving record and a valid driver’s license.

Responsibilities

  • Perform onsite DOT inspections on Class 6-8 trucks and trailers in a mobile field environment.
  • Respond to dispatch requests for scheduled and unscheduled DOT inspections.
  • Use inspection tools and equipment — including tread depth gauges, brake stroke gauges, and other diagnostic aids — to accurately assess vehicle condition against DOT standards.
  • Clearly and accurately document inspection findings, flag out-of-service items, and recommend additional repairs to advanced technicians for follow-up as needed.
  • Stay productive and efficient, meeting or beating industry-standard inspection times.
  • Take ownership of a company-issued service vehicle, perform maintenance and pre- and post-trip inspections, and ensure safety compliance.
