About The Position

This job generates radiation dose distributions and calculations on patients undergoing radiation therapy and checks all treatment records of patients under treatment on a weekly basis. Under general supervision, devises special compensator fabrication and multileaf collimator (MLC) treatment shields. Coordinates all aspects of patient flow relative to treatment planning, including simulation and computed tomography (CT) tumor localization. Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited program in medical dosimetry, or must have completed an accredited program in Radiation Therapy Technology.
  • 1 year experience as a full-time medical dosimetrist including experience in and knowledge of treatment planning computers used to generate plans for patients undergoing therapy as well as computer equipment used in the treatment of radiation oncology patients, such as record and verify systems and linear accelerators.
  • Registration by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists.
  • Certification in Medical Dosimetry by the American Association of Medical Dosimetrists
  • Licensure from the State of Louisiana.
  • Must have computer skills and dexterity required for data entry and retrieval of patient information.
  • Must be proficient with Windows-style applications, keyboard, and various software programs specific to role.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills and the ability to present information clearly and professionally to varying levels of individuals throughout the patient care process.
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Good manual dexterity required as necessary in working with a wide range of materials, such as plaster, metal alloys, and immobilization devices.
  • Must follow OSHA guidelines for employees working with block casting materials.

  • Exhibits flexibility in scheduling and staffing practices to accommodate needs of the department.
  • Takes responsibility for professional development, maintaining required clinical knowledge, technical skills and credentials/age specific competency.
