About The Position

Under the supervision of the medical physicist, and in consultation with a radiation oncologist, the medical Dosimetrist 1 is responsible for manual and computer simulation and planning of radiation treatment and delivery; monitor unit and dose calculations for radiation fields, and brachytherapy planning and radioactive source handling. These services may be provided for both the LLUMC and LLUCH hospitals. Performs other duties as needed.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Physics or related field required
  • Training in dosimetry through completion of a certificate in dosimetry, accredited by the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT)
  • Understanding of dosimetry concepts, radiation interactions, radiation safety, radiation biology concepts, and human anatomy
  • Good computer based 3-D treatment planning skills using x-rays and protons
  • Understanding of the deliverability of radiation treatments with the generated plans
  • Able to perform manual and computer based monitor unit calculations and dose calculations for treatment fields
  • Able to read; write legibly; speak in English with professional quality
  • Able to use computer and software programs necessary to the position
  • Able to relate and communicate positively, effectively, and professionally with others
  • Able to be assertive and consistent in following and/or enforcing policies
  • Able to work calmly and respond courteously when under pressure
  • Able to think critically
  • Able to work independently with minimal supervision

Nice To Haves

  • Certification as a Certified Medical Dosimetrist (CMD) by the Medical Dosimetry Certification Board (MDCB) is expected within five years from the time of hire.
