About The Position

The Door Technician is responsible for the maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, adjustment, replacement, and upgrade of mechanical and electro-mechanical locksets, ADA door operators, and all related door hardware. This role involves close coordination with college electrical trades staff and the IT department for electro-mechanical systems. The technician will also assist the Locksmith, maintain tools and equipment, manage inventory, respond to work orders, and support event setups. Additionally, this position will contribute to maintaining databases for keys, locks, and access credentials, and may train others. A commitment to diversity and inclusion is expected.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Valid driver's license and a satisfactory driving record meeting St. Olaf College driver authorization criteria.
  • 2+ years of door hardware, locksmith, mechanical maintenance, or carpentry experience.
  • Skills in using standard office equipment and computer applications, including email, word processing, spreadsheet, and database, or willingness to learn.

Nice To Haves

  • Locksmith Certification.
  • Vocational/technical school training.
  • State of Minnesota electrical license "PLT" (power limited technician's license) as mandated by State law (MN Statute Chapter 326B) to design, layout, plan, install or service electrical low voltage systems for card access, electric locking, and ADA powered doors.
  • 5+ years of experience in the commercial lock and door hardware industry.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain and troubleshoot mechanical and electro-mechanical locksets, making necessary repairs, adjustments, replacements, or upgrades.
  • Communicate and coordinate with college electrical trades staff and the Information Technology department for troubleshooting, repairing, replacing, or installing electro-mechanical door hardware.
  • Maintain and troubleshoot ADA door operators, door closers, door hold open units, doors, frames, pivots, and other related mechanical and electro-mechanical door hardware.
  • Shim hinges and make adjustments to doors and frames for proper fitment and swing.
  • Assist Locksmith with pinning cylinders, installing cores, and changing student room cores.
  • Maintain campus-owned tools, equipment, service vehicle, and workspace in a clean, organized, efficient, and safe manner.
  • Respond to radio calls, telephone calls, emails, and computerized work orders for repairs and replacements of door-related items.
  • Maintain appropriate stock inventory levels of door and frame hardware products.
  • Utilize standard office equipment and computer applications for communication and record-keeping.
  • Provide support for event set-ups as needed.
  • Assist in maintaining a database of all keys issued and all locks, keying, and access credentials for card reading devices.
  • Train others, including student workers and staff, in the operation of keys, locks, and databases.
