About The Position

The Door Shop Lead plays a critical role within our operations team as an individual who is cross-trained in all door shop functions and responsibilities, including operating saws, routers, pneumatic tools, and other small hand tools, power equipment, and specialized production and CNC machinery to machine, assemble, and fabricate doors, components, configurations, and other products. The door shop is responsible for meeting and maintaining productivity goals while producing a quality product that is expected by OrePac’s external customers through the utilization of timely, productive, safe, and cost-effective methods. This position acts as a mentor to fellow team members and provides training and coaching to achieve organizational goals. This is a labor-intensive position that requires heavy lifting. Individuals are regularly on their feet throughout the day. Safety is a priority. OrePac Building Products seeks dynamic individuals who exemplify excellence in quality, trust, value, and service. Our ideal candidate for this position is an experienced Production Associate and a reliable and detail-oriented leader who possesses above average computer and math skills to correctly input a variety of information via the machine control panel and/or bar code scanner.

  • Ability to adhere to all facets of safety policies and procedures, including wearing required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as designated by OrePac’s safety program. Ability to perform all essential responsibilities of the job in a safe manner.
  • Ability to compute basic math problems to include addition, subtraction, and multiplication.
  • Ability to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Mechanical aptitude. Experience with hand tools, power tools, and the ability to read a tape measure.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced environment within a team or individually with minimal supervision while achieving quality and timely completion of assigned tasks to achieve customer satisfaction.
  • Must have knowledge of the accurate and safe use of automatic door shop equipment (such as the Norfield Magnum, Ruvo, or Kval door assemblers) and various routers and saws.

Nice To Haves

  • At least 1 year of experience using door cut out machines, mills, saws, joiners, nail guns, and other carpentry tools (preferred, but not required).

Responsibilities

  • Stay up-to-date and knowledgeable in all functions of the door shop operation. Cross-train in all skill sets and backfill positions as needed to achieve organizational and operational goals.
  • Operating CNC equipment such as the EuGenie or Full House and automated door shop equipment to machine and fabricate doors and door frames to meet work order specifications and quality standards.
  • Cutting down heads and jambs, striking jambs, installing hinges, installing lites, cutting sills, applying weatherstripping, and nailing.
  • Assembling prefabricated doors with the use of saws, routers, and pneumatic tools, and other small hand tools and power equipment.
  • Completing tasks in accordance with SOP’s for the provided order paperwork and established quality expectations.
  • Being trained in and capable of operating specialized door shop equipment and machinery (such as the KVAL 700C, Fullhouse Assembler, Norfield 540 Assembler, Mag Operator, Norfield 3800, Norfield 4800, or KVAL 700DC).
  • Safely operating the bander, tilt table, and tiger stop saw to complete various assembly and prep tasks.
  • Reviewing order paperwork before beginning production to ensure accuracy of finished products. Reviewing all products and orders before, during, and after production to ensure that quality standards are met before transferring products to the next stage of production and before packaging products for transportation. Utilizing tablets and software for documentation.
  • Palletizing, packaging, wrapping, and staging doors in preparation for shipment to customers. Understanding that product packaging must be done per specifications to prevent damage during transportation.
  • Work with team and operations leadership to analyze and resolve minor challenges, develop and implement improvements, and maintain a safe work environment.
  • Assist in on-boarding of new employees to the door shop. Assist with training and mentoring of all employees to further develop and build an established and experienced warehouse team.
  • Read and understand door work orders sent to the door shop for building. Stay up-to-date and knowledgeable of door terminology and various components to ensure accuracy of parts and pieces pulled.
  • Operate powered industrial equipment such as forklifts or combilifts to manipulate and move product.
  • Work to maintain a safe and clean environment while achieving department productivity goals. Adhere to OrePac’s policies, procedures, and safety program. Play an active role in fostering an environment of safe work practices and employee engagement.
  • May partner with OrePac’s CNC Technician or Maintenance Technician to communicate and troubleshoot any issues and perform routine maintenance.
  • Forklift duties may be assigned to this position. Any assigned forklift duties will first require taking and passing a forklift training course and obtaining a certificate. Forklift duties will include staging and/or stacking material neatly and safely, operating the forklift in a safe manner, filling the forklift with propane fuel, and regularly checking the forklift fluid levels.
