The Donor Care Specialist (Phlebotomist) ensures the satisfaction of all users of the department's services, internal and external, according to the hospital’s customer service standards. This role involves making recommendations for workflow practices and improvements in quality and/or efficiency to the immediate supervisor. Responsibilities include assisting with loading and unloading supplies and equipment for blood drives, setting up and breaking down equipment, performing daily quality control, and screening donors for eligibility based on established standards. The specialist performs all aspects of whole blood collections, prepares and labels blood components and samples, and accurately documents all blood donor records and data entry, including donor deferrals. They also pack units for transport, perform blood component processing, and assist with donor recruitment. Maintaining a clean and safe work environment, staying knowledgeable of departmental policies, and pursuing professional growth are key aspects of this position. The role also involves assisting supervisors and pathologists with various program maintenance, including quality control and assurance.
