About The Position

At The Salvation Army Family Store, your work helps turn donated goods into funding for programs that support individuals and families in our community. As a Donation Processing Associate, you'll play a key role in accepting, processing, sorting, and preparing donated items while delivering outstanding customer service to our donors. This position is ideal for someone who enjoys working in a hands-on environment, interacting with people, and making a positive impact through meaningful work.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or currently pursuing
  • Strong English communication skills for donor and team interactions
  • Basic computer skills and ability to learn new systems
  • Basic math skills
  • Ability to pass pre-employment background check
  • Must be available for a flexible schedule including weekends, holidays and evenings
  • Strong customer service and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Dependable attendance and strong work ethic
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English
  • Ability to follow directions and safety procedures
  • Basic organizational and problem-solving skills

Nice To Haves

  • Customer service experience
  • Retail, warehouse, production, donation center, or material handling experience preferred
  • Experience working in a nonprofit or mission-driven environment is a plus

Responsibilities

  • Greet donors and provide exceptional customer service
  • Assist donors with unloading and accepting donations
  • Accurately process and track donated items
  • Inspect donations and identify acceptable materials
  • Safeguard all donated goods and assigned equipment
  • Educate donors on donation guidelines and available services
  • Sort, categorize, and process donated merchandise according to Salvation Army standards
  • Power sort donations as received, where applicable
  • Support production goals and processing standards
  • Load and unload Salvation Army trucks in accordance with center policy
  • Assist with moving merchandise and materials throughout the facility
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe donation area
  • Follow company policies and safety procedures
  • Report complaints, injuries, equipment issues, or property damage promptly
  • Assist with maintaining an efficient donation flow and processing area
