About The Position

The DOE Database Developer will collaborate with internal customers, prospects, and stakeholders to understand and translate business use cases and/or requirements into data analysis, data mapping, and data integration routines. This involves moving, cleansing, and transforming large amounts of data between multiple systems. The role includes identifying data sources, providing data flow diagrams, and documenting source-to-target mapping and processes. The developer will collaborate with the Data Architect to recommend optimal data models for data ingestion and with BI developers for analytic reports. Additionally, the role involves providing technical enablement to team members developing database applications on-premise or in the cloud, designing, implementing, and maintaining database objects (tables, views, indexes, etc.) and database security. Collaboration with data stewards, data owners, and domain experts to adopt best practices in reporting and analysis (data integrity, test design, validation, documentation) is key. The position requires maintaining data warehouse performance through optimization of batch processing, performance tuning, and working with the Data Architect to establish processes for governing educational metadata. Ensuring data quality through audit controls, proactive monitoring, and data cleansing techniques is also a responsibility. The developer will be responsible for scheduled data processes integrity checks, performing deployments, and coordinating releases. Experience with Source Version Control software like GitHub and CI/CD pipelines is needed. On-call support after hours may be required.
