About The Position

This DoD SkillBridge internship offers an opportunity for active duty service members to gain valuable experience as a Field Service Engineer III. The role involves performing a variety of technical functions in support of engineering activities, including troubleshooting, testing, modification, assembly, and maintenance and repair of electronic systems and specialized avionics equipment. The intern will evaluate components, subsystems, test equipment, and software, and provide technical support to Air Force customers on the operations and maintenance of assigned communications/surveillance equipment. Responsibilities also include aircraft installation, troubleshooting, and testing of equipment, supporting aircraft flight tests and engineering evaluations of new systems, and assisting in training junior technicians and Air Force personnel. A significant aspect of the role involves worldwide deployment with AFSOC personnel in support of exercises and contingency operations, potentially including hostile environments.

Requirements

  • Minimum of four years aircraft avionics maintenance experience, JTWS equipment experience, or equivalent DoD SIGINT experience
  • Must be able to operate as a single maintainer at either CONUS or OCONUS locations to include hostile areas
  • Must be Active Duty military and eligible for a Skillbridge Internship

Nice To Haves

  • Eight plus years of experience with AFSOC, AF or DoD SIGINT/COMINT, EW, Guidance & Control or Comm/Nav systems
  • Knowledge of AF and AFSOC organizational structure
  • Knowledge of DoD SIGINT/COMINT employment concepts
  • Familiarity with USAF, AFSOC aircraft maintenance concepts, practices, and procedures
  • CompTIA Security+ certified

Responsibilities

  • Performing a variety of technical functions in support of engineering activities such as troubleshooting, test, modification, assembly, and maintenance and repair of electronic systems and other specialized avionics equipment
  • Evaluating components, subsystems, test equipment, and software
  • Providing technical support to Air Force customers on operations and maintenance of assigned communications/surveillance equipment
  • Performing aircraft installation, troubleshooting, and testing of equipment
  • Supporting aircraft flight test and engineering evaluations of new systems and system configurations
  • Assisting in training junior level electronics technicians and Air Force personnel to perform general fabrication, assembly, test and evaluation, and documentation tasks
  • Deploying worldwide with AFSOC personnel in support of exercise and contingency operations including hostile environments
