About The Position

Overview A leading organization is seeking a skilled Documentation Writer to support a large-scale mainframe modernization project. This initiative involves migrating legacy mainframe applications and infrastructure. The Documentation Writer will play a critical role in capturing, organizing, and maintaining clear and comprehensive technical and process documentation throughout the migration lifecycle.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of experience in technical writing or documentation roles, preferably in IT or mainframe environments.
  • Proven ability to translate complex technical information into clear, user-friendly documentation.
  • Experience working with cross-functional teams in a fast-paced, project-driven environment.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Proficiency with documentation tools (e.g., Microsoft Office, Confluence, Visio, or similar).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills; able to build rapport and work effectively with diverse teams.
  • Active listener who can ask clarifying questions and synthesize information from multiple sources.
  • Adaptable and flexible in a dynamic project environment.
  • Self-motivated, proactive, and able to manage multiple priorities with minimal supervision.
  • High degree of professionalism, reliability, and discretion.
  • Commitment to continuous learning and improvement.
  • Must be eligible to work in the United States and pass background checks as required.
  • Commitment to knowledge sharing and supporting team success.
  • This role may require access to export-controlled commodities and technology. Therefore, to conform to U.S. export control regulations, applicant should be eligible for any required authorizations from the U.S. Government.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience documenting mainframe systems, migrations, or modernization projects.
  • Familiarity with IBM z/OS, z/VSE, COBOL, JCL, and related technologies.
  • Exposure to regulatory compliance documentation in insurance or financial services environments.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with technical teams, project managers, and subject matter experts to gather information on migration processes, tools, and workflows.
  • Create, update, and maintain project documentation, including: Migration plans and procedures System architecture diagrams Application and codebase inventories Security and compliance documentation User Acceptance Testing (UAT) scripts and training materials Best practices, lessons learned, and knowledge transfer guides
  • Ensure all documentation is clear, accurate, and accessible to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Standardize documentation formats and maintain version control.
  • Support the development of training materials for IT staff and end users.
  • Participate in project meetings to stay informed of changes and updates.
