About The Position

Convergint is looking for a CAD Technician & Document Controller to join our amazing culture in our Halifax, NS location. As a Document Controller, you will work closely with our project management and engineering teams to coordinate field activities, support documentation, and assist with the technical delivery of large-scale integrated systems projects. This position blends technical understanding, and strong documentation skills. You will assist with technical documentation control and production under the guidance of senior project managers and technical specialists, with a clear growth path toward becoming a Technical Project Coordinator in the future. Technical Support and Drawing Coordination Develop and maintain technical documentation, redlines, and site reports. Verify device locations, wiring terminations, and equipment installations. Participate in system testing, labeling, and commissioning with senior technicians. Monitor jobsite conditions, promote adherence to Convergint Health & Safety policies, and participate in toolbox talks and hazard assessments. Prepare system installation drawings from engineered documentation. Prepare system as-built drawings from onsite drawing mark-ups. Assemble and prepare drawing package sets, data sheets, submittals, shop drawings, and other technical details. Assemble operations & maintenance manuals and system documentation. Review drawings for quality, accuracy, and clarity. Print, run copies, distribute shop drawings, close-out documentation to different stakeholders as necessary. Complete assigned deliverables on time and budget. Assist colleagues with drafting support as required. Organize and maintain project folders and drawings. Collaborate with engineering and design teams to review layouts, device placement, and as-built drawings. Maintain design redlines and change records for integration and installation drawings. Validate that designs are constructible and consistent with site conditions. Support development of markups, diagrams, and coordination drawings across multiple systems (Security, RTLS, Nurse Call, BAS, IT, etc.). 2. Scheduling & Progress Tracking Support project managers in maintaining and updating project schedules. Track field progress and milestone completion using MS Project, Wrike, Smartsheet, or similar tools. Identify potential schedule impacts, report risks, and assist with recovery planning. Maintain accurate progress logs, reports, and upcoming activity lists. 3. Documentation & Reporting Track submittals, RFIs, and drawing revisions throughout the project lifecycle. Prepare daily and weekly field reports with photos, key activities, and progress updates. Assist in compiling FAT/SAT documentation and commissioning packages. Maintain organized technical records to ensure full documentation traceability. 4. Integration & Testing Support Participate in testing and commissioning activities with guidance from technical leads. Record results, track open issues, and verify corrective actions. Support cross-system testing and integration verification. Assist in preparing turnover documentation, SOPs, and closeout binders. 5. Growth & Development Learn project management fundamentals including cost tracking and scheduling. Gain exposure to design review, documentation control, and client coordination. Participate in Convergint mentorship and training programs leading toward a Project Manager role. 6. Professional & Organizational Responsibilities Execute all work in compliance with provincial and local regulations, industry best practices, and company H&S policies. Always act as “our customer’s best service provider,” ensuring Convergint remains their first choice. Collaborate with teammates to improve overall operations of the Convergint Technology Center. Stay informed on company policies, standards, and safety programs. Perform other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • 0-3 years of experience in a technical coordination, field technician, design, or project support role.
  • Solid understanding of integrated building systems (Security, IT Infrastructure, Nurse Call, RTLS, BAS, etc.).
  • Ability to interpret and markup technical drawings, schematics, and schedules.
  • Strong proficiency with MS Office (Excel, Word) and Bluebeam; familiarity with AutoCAD, Revit, Wrike or Smartsheet is an asset.
  • Excellent communication, documentation, and time management skills.
  • Comfortable working in construction environments with regular field presence.

Nice To Haves

  • 3+ years of experience in systems integration, project delivery, or design coordination within large-scale infrastructure projects.
  • 3+ years of technical field experience in a construction environment.
  • Hands-on involvement in testing and commissioning of integrated systems.
  • Experience working in a P3 or highly regulated environment (healthcare, transportation, education, government) is preferred.
  • Previous coordination with general contractors, consultants, and trades.
  • Experience managing or liaising with external service providers.
  • Relevant trade certification and experience preferred
  • Strong understanding of construction processes and methods.
  • Knowledge of scheduling tools such as MS Project, Wrike or Primavera.
