About The Position

Join the VCA West Coast Specialty & Emergency Animal Hospital team as a Doctor's Assistant in Surgery! This role involves working closely with veterinarians, veterinary technicians and/or assistants, and other staff members to ensure the well-being of our patients. The ideal candidate will have a passion for providing high-quality care to animals, with a specific focus on surgery.

Nice To Haves

2 years minimum Veterinary Medicine experience as a Veterinary Technician or Assistant (preferred, but not required).
Laboratory work.
Pharmacology.
Compassionate care for hospitalized patients.

Responsibilities

Assist the veterinarian and Technical Support Team with physical examinations and consultations.
Facilitate appointments and drop-offs between the client, the doctor, and the Technical Support Team.
Communicate and interact compassionately, as well as educate clients about procedures and post-operative care.
Manage medical records, reports, and correspondence.
Accurately charge for services, possessing a good understanding of financial and medical charges.
Schedule patient appointments for consults, rechecks, and/or procedures.
Facilitate discharges in a fast-paced, high-stress environment.
Perform other duties that may be assigned by leadership.
Restrain and assist in patient exams and routine procedures.
Obtain patient vitals.
Maintain accurate and complete medical records.
Maintain a clean work environment to maintain any infectious disease protocols.
Handle medical/biomedical and infectious waste appropriately.
