About The Position

Join the VCA West Coast Specialty & Emergency Animal Hospital team as a Doctor's Assistant in Surgery! This role involves working closely with veterinarians, veterinary technicians and/or assistants, and other staff members to ensure the well-being of our patients. The ideal candidate will have a passion for providing high-quality care to animals, with a specific focus on surgery.

Nice To Haves

  • 2 years minimum Veterinary Medicine experience as a Veterinary Technician or Assistant (preferred, but not required).
  • Laboratory work.
  • Pharmacology.
  • Compassionate care for hospitalized patients.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the veterinarian and Technical Support Team with physical examinations and consultations.
  • Facilitate appointments and drop-offs between the client, the doctor, and the Technical Support Team.
  • Communicate and interact compassionately, as well as educate clients about procedures and post-operative care.
  • Manage medical records, reports, and correspondence.
  • Accurately charge for services, possessing a good understanding of financial and medical charges.
  • Schedule patient appointments for consults, rechecks, and/or procedures.
  • Facilitate discharges in a fast-paced, high-stress environment.
  • Perform other duties that may be assigned by leadership.
  • Restrain and assist in patient exams and routine procedures.
  • Obtain patient vitals.
  • Maintain accurate and complete medical records.
  • Maintain a clean work environment to maintain any infectious disease protocols.
  • Handle medical/biomedical and infectious waste appropriately.
