The Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) is responsible for instructing students and contributing to the selection and organization of curriculum, veterinary protocols, equipment, and supplies. The DVM also provides guidance to students and partner shelter facilities on general care practices, medical conditions, treatments, and appropriate medication protocols. Instruction further includes preparing and managing medical records as part of the animal care process. Success in this role requires the ability to communicate ideas clearly, concisely, and in a motivating manner; use questioning strategies that promote critical thinking and encourage students to pursue their own answers; maintain an organized and disciplined learning environment; and uphold strict confidentiality in all matters involving student information and records. The role also requires strong organizational skills and the ability to maintain accurate and reliable tracking systems that support student progress and program needs.
