About The Position
PITT OHIO is hiring a part-time Outbound Dockworker at its Latham, New York location. The schedule is Monday through Friday with a 4 PM start. The role involves loading and unloading freight, sorting and securing items, handling job-related paperwork, and following safety and regulatory requirements. The work requires frequent physical activity, including heavy lifting and handling a variety of freight and materials. Starting pay is $25.74 per hour, with a top rate of $28.89 after six months.
Requirements
- Pass a non-DOT physical examination.
- Consent to a pre-employment drug screen and receive a negative result.
- Be able to read and write in English, communicate effectively, and perform simple mathematical calculations.
- Consent to a ten-year work-history check; explain any employment gap of 30 days or more and provide documentation if requested.
- Meet the role's physical demands, including heavy lifting and standing, walking, pushing, pulling, twisting, carrying, bending, reaching, and lifting above and below waist level.
Responsibilities
- Load and unload freight on and off trucks by hand or using a hand truck or dolly, in accordance with DOT requirements.
- Sort and secure items on trucks or on the dock to prevent damage and comply with DOT requirements.
- Handle and lift various materials, including cartons, bags, cylinders, boxes, crates, drums, pipe, bars, and rugs.
- Use common material-handling tools, including carts, dollies, pallet jacks, and tow motors.
- Work safely and professionally to reduce risks to oneself and fellow employees.
- Comply with federal, state, and company regulations.
- Complete daily paperwork associated with the job.
- Read shipping labels, follow loading instructions, handle receipts, perform simple calculations, and communicate with internal and external customers.
- Be available and willing to work; exceptions require management approval.
- Work positively, supportively, and cooperatively.
- Perform other duties as directed or requested.
