About The Position

Assist in the day-to-day operations to ensure the efficient and cost-effective operation of the dock and salvage workforce, maximizing profitability and increasing training opportunities. Provide direction, job training, development, and support of dock and salvage team members concerning the proper and safe handling of goods, leading to increased revenues for GWH mission services funding.

Requirements

  • Six (6) months of experience in a supervisory role, or equivalent work experience, is required.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Must be able to read, write, communicate effectively in English, and perform basic mathematical skills.
  • Must be able to become forklift certified.
  • Proficient in salvage loading techniques, loading styles, tracking, and reporting.
  • Effectively use computer applications, including electronic mail, word processing, spreadsheets, GPS, Internet/Intranet, and other applications as determined appropriate by GWH.
  • Skill in operation monitoring, watching indicators to ensure a machine works correctly.
  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule, including nights and weekends.

Nice To Haves

  • A high school diploma or equivalent is preferred.
  • Experience in a warehouse setting is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Ensures alignment and consistency of all aspects of dock and salvage operations, including SOPs, Reference Guides, job descriptions, performance evaluations, observation checklists, production standards, training, Safety Programs, and other documents related to DGR systems.
  • Assist in supervising the night activities of dock associates to maintain consistent processing of all materials and meet production and safety standards.
  • Supervises and assists with the coordination of after-market resale and salvage operations and ensures appropriate operational systems and resources are in place to generate maximum profitability.
  • Helps to ensure that the promotion, collection, transportation, production, sales, external/internal distribution of donated products, and related operational and sales activities are properly integrated to achieve maximum profitability and quality customer service.
  • Helps to ensure the logistics with vendors for the sale, recycling, and disposal of salvage goods (apparel, shoes, books, etc.); recyclable materials (cardboard, metals, glass, cellular phones, computers, etc.); trash; and hazardous materials; maximizing post-retail revenue opportunities and minimizing disposal costs.
  • Assist with coordinating salvage sales and zero-waste opportunities to increase revenue and profitability, reduce waste, and further GWH's green environment initiatives.
  • Ensures hazardous and household materials are handled in accordance with local, state, and federal regulations and GWH policies and procedures.
  • Ensures all transportation/baler (forklift and operation of heavy machinery and vehicles) safety policies, regulations, and practices are followed to ensure accident-free driving and processing and minimize insurance costs.
  • Ensures the safety and image of the truck yard, parking areas, loading dock, and salvage areas by keeping them clean, neat, and safe at all times.
  • Coordinates loads and maintains accurate inventory control of goods.
  • Ensure all trucks and trailers containing salvage goods are manifested and sealed upon receipt.
  • Instructs associates in the offload and on-load methods and all other procedures to instill a service-conscious attitude and minimize service failures and injuries.
  • Ensures that vehicle loading and unloading are performed utilizing sound safety practices (e.g., lifting, use of equipment, etc.) and accidents are reported in a timely manner to the immediate supervisor and Human Resources.
  • Responsible for the scheduling and productive use of the labor force.
  • Assist in the maintenance and ordering of supplies.
  • Assist in ensuring good stewardship of all donations, through proper handling and processing of incoming donations in accordance with GHW policies and procedures.
  • Ensure store security and the safety of GWH associates and property according to policies and procedures.
  • Assist Management in complying with GWH image and safety practices and procedures.
  • Assist in the timely rotation of apparel and hard goods in accordance with GWH policies and procedures.
  • Keep abreast of merchandise knowledge, industry trends, and competitive pricing.
  • Assist in developing and training associates. Lead by example and supervise, ensuring associates can achieve the goals set forth by GWH.
  • Assist with operating the dock and salvage team within budgeted expense-to-revenue ratios.
  • Must perform necessary janitorial work.
  • Responsible for the Safety Site Inspection and Incident/Accident reports.
  • Inspects all equipment to ensure a good company image and a safe working environment.
  • Report incidents, vehicle defects, traffic violations, or damage to vehicles before and after route, equipment repairs, and/or maintenance needs to the immediate supervisor in a timely manner.
  • Communicate with supervisor work requests (Facility Maintenance and Information Technology Support)
  • Provide information needed for WESA Reports to be completed accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Other duties as assigned by management.

  • May be asked to attend training sessions and participate in activities outside GWH.
  • Adheres to local, state, and federal laws and regulations.
