About The Position

The Dock Lead is responsible for safely leading dock operations to meet stakeholder expectations regarding service, productivity, and cost management. This role ensures and actively participates in the timely, safe, and efficient handling of incoming and outgoing freight, as well as delivery of trailers. Continuous improvement, proactive problem-solving, and effective communication are critical to success in this position.

Requirements

  • Strong collaboration—able to champion business needs with colleagues and stakeholders.
  • Able to lift up to 75 lbs. individually; for items exceeding 75 lbs., uses company-provided mechanical aids or team lifts.
  • Experienced with physical labor, including bending, crouching, stretching, lifting, and similar tasks.
  • Comfortable repeatedly standing, grasping, balancing, climbing, kneeling, and crouching for extended periods, and walking up to 100 meters in environments with loud noise.
  • Proven ability to move and handle large, cumbersome freight (50–75 lbs.) in a dock setting; familiarity with additional supports or safe handling practices for heavier loads.
  • Flexibility to work shifts outside of business hours and willingness to accommodate various shift schedules as required.

Responsibilities

  • Work with a team to load and unload trailers in accordance with daily operational plans.
  • Oversee the shift, prioritizing work, communicating with team members, resolving issues, and ensuring adherence to safe working procedures.
  • Scan freight using a handheld scanner, ensuring the accuracy of inbound and outbound records.
  • Document freight condition by taking pictures of damaged or loaded items as required.
  • For freight items over 75 lbs., coordinate the use of mechanical aids or team lifts to ensure safety and compliance with occupational health standards.
  • Maintain accurate records and perform basic administrative duties as needed to support freight movement and shipment documentation.
  • Proactively identify and report safety hazards, equipment concerns, or process inefficiencies to management.
  • Perform other related duties as required to support dock operations or assist colleagues.
