DMS Developer / Systems Analyst

Model1 Commercial Vehicles, Inc.•Indianapolis, IN
•$90,000 - $115,000

About The Position

Model 1 Commercial Vehicles is seeking a developer to join their dealership management system (DMS) team. The role involves building automations, integrations, and reporting to ensure smooth operations in service, parts, and sales. A key focus will be developing and maintaining modern web applications, migrating existing Excel VBA tools to this stack, and transitioning data access from direct SQL queries to APIs. The developer will collaborate with the Sr. Business Systems Manager to design, test, and maintain SQL-based processes, administer the Excede (Procede) environment, and translate business requirements into technical solutions. The team utilizes AI-assisted tools like Claude Code in their workflow.

Requirements

  • 2–4+ years of hands-on SQL Server / T-SQL development, including views, stored procedures, and complex logic.
  • Working proficiency in Python for scripting and automation.
  • Experience building web applications, including working with REST APIs.
  • Ability to read and understand existing VBA code well enough to reverse-engineer its behavior.
  • Strong debugging habits and a methodical approach to testing changes incrementally.
  • Ability to explain technical reasoning clearly to both technical and non-technical colleagues.
  • Comfort working with challenging real-world data (CSV exports, legacy schemas).

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with a dealership management system, ideally Procede’s Excede, or with other automotive/RV/heavy-truck DMS platforms.
  • Familiarity with dealership operations (service orders, sublet, parts, F&I).
  • Experience with a web stack such as [e.g., Python/Flask or FastAPI, .NET, or JavaScript/React].
  • Experience designing or securing APIs (authentication, permissions, error handling).
  • Background in migrating legacy desktop or spreadsheet tools to web platforms.
  • Experience with AI-assisted development tools such as Claude Code, and good judgment about when to trust, verify, or rewrite their output.
  • Experience with Excel automation, COM/pywin32, or Office integrations.
  • Exposure to Docker, Git, and VS Code.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, test, and maintain T-SQL views, stored procedures, and scheduled jobs that automate DMS workflows.
  • Analyze existing Excel VBA tools to document their logic, data sources, and business rules, then rebuild them as web applications.
  • Migrate data access from direct SQL queries to API-based integrations, working with DMS APIs and building or consuming internal APIs as needed.
  • Troubleshoot and debug existing SQL logic, with careful attention to edge cases and conditional branches, and document fixes clearly.
  • Support Excede (Procede) administration, including security workspaces, user permissions, and data exports.
  • Build Python scripts and utilities for data extraction, transformation, and Windows/Office automation.
  • Analyze DMS data exports and produce clear reports and workbooks for stakeholders.
  • Translate requirements from service, parts, and sales departments into technical specs, and adapt to scope changes directed by project sponsors.
  • Maintain documentation, including process and lifecycle diagrams, for the systems you build or change.
  • Work in local and test environments before promoting changes to production.
  • Use Claude Code as part of day-to-day development, including drafting SQL and Python, debugging, and refactoring, while reviewing and testing all AI-generated changes before they reach production.

Benefits

  • Competitive benefits including health insurance, paid holidays, and vacation pay
  • Continuous training to provide you the opportunity to develop your full potential and be a true business partner
  • Access to an expansive network of mentors and networking opportunities
  • Top quality technology to assist in your daily responsibilities to allow for more efficiencies to deliver outstanding customer service
