About The Position

The One-to-One DLC Special Education Paraprofessional assists in the supervision and instruction of students, monitors students in various settings (classroom, playground, cafeteria, library, bus loading, field trips, etc.), and provides general support to assigned certificated teacher(s). This role is directly responsible to the classroom teacher and building principal.

Requirements

High School Diploma or GED
At least one of the following: 2 year post-secondary degree or more, 72 quarter credits at a post-secondary school, or Passed ETS Paraprofessional Assessment.
Certified in Safety Care De-Escalation/Restraint or similar program.
CPR Certificate and First Aid Certificate may be required.
Ability to squat, bend, and walk without limitations.
Ability to lift 50 pounds and assist in lifting over 50 pounds.

Nice To Haves

Bilingual Preferred
Previous experience working with students who have autism is preferred.

Responsibilities

Assist students individually or in small groups in presenting and/or reinforcing learning concepts and reaching academic goals.
Follow a structured teaching and learning plan, carrying out direct instruction tutoring.
Assist students in understanding whole group instruction and provide practice on identified skills.
Incorporate IEP requirements into daily lesson plans as directed by the teacher.
Maintain records and charts indicating student progress and inform the classroom teacher of progress.
Maintain classroom equipment, work areas, and student files/records.
Assist the teacher in monitoring student behavior and discipline students as authorized.
Monitor individual and/or groups of students in various settings to provide a safe and positive learning environment.
Teach and reinforce appropriate behavior with students.
Restrain students from harming themselves or others.
Perform record keeping and clerical functions.
Provide one-to-one assistance with changing, diapering, and personal hygiene as required.
Assist students with feeding and administer tube feeding as required.
Mainstream students in general education settings as requested.
Serve as the chief source of information and help to substitute teachers with assigned students.
Attend meetings and trainings as requested.
Fulfill other related duties as assigned, which may include riding the school bus.
Maintain a high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality.
Utilize reasonable and professional judgment.
Observe and utilize professional medical/safety precautions, including positioning children safely and transferring children.
Assist other personnel as required for an efficient and effective work environment.
Drive a district vehicle with students to and from community-based learning settings.
Communicate regularly with students, parents/guardians, and teaching staff.
Deal with a wide range of student behaviors and physical and emotional disabilities.
Work in non-routine positions for extended periods.
