About The Position

Trainers in the Specialized Training Unit (STU) prepare for and conduct training for certification and in-service training for juvenile justice professionals, to include but not limited to the following: Community Assessment Tool (CAT), Prevention Assessment Tool (PAT), Residential Assessment for Youth (RAY), Youth Empowered Success (YES) Plan, Motivational Interviewing (MI), and other related trainings. Evaluate student performance and provide guidance, assistance or coaching for identified growth areas. Administer practical and written examinations and interprets examination statistics. Evaluate and recommend changes based on need and analysis. Conduct pre-course analysis of risk assessment administration accuracy and inter-rater reliability. Interprets policies and procedures. Document findings and prepares recommendations for implementation. Complete on-going inter-rater reliability activities for all staff using risk assessments. Assist in the development of training materials and coaching strategies. Communicate patterns in training issues to risk assessment fidelity monitoring team and evidence-based training unit supervisor. Trainers conduct studies, evaluations and provides technical assistance for developing statewide policies and/or procedures to assist the department in more efficiently and effectively administering all risk assessments and operating with fidelity to evidence-based models. Ensure compliance with program operations. Complete detailed reports on all activities and addresses corrective actions needed. Maintain open lines of communication with regional staff and area providers to quickly address any training needs and answer risk assessment related questions. Provide on-site coaching and assess for system improvement. Trainers attend and participate in meetings, trainings and other initiatives related to professional development as authorized by management. Perform special projects and other duties as assigned. Conduct analysis of trends related to risk assessment and other training needs to provide recommendations to the Department and Provider linked to incident prevention and liability reduction methods. Trainers maintain and provide accurate and timely training records and files to include evaluation summaries of all classes. Ensure accuracy of all documents in preparation for archiving or submission to internal and external entities in a timely manner. Prepare necessary reports and training records in an accurate and timely manner. Properly operate and maintain audio/visual equipment. Assist with recommends and implements organizational improvements. Performs other related duties as required. Must be able to travel.

Requirements

  • Knowledge in the area of department operation and use of risk assessments (CAT, PAT, RAY) and associated treatment plans.
  • Knowledge in the area of risk factors for delinquency, assessment and evidence-based treatment and practices.
  • Knowledge in the area of implementation process and program readiness for change.
  • Knowledge of the principles, methods and techniques of adult learning.
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to understand and apply rules, regulations, policies and procedures relating to operational activities.
  • Ability to provide clear and precise directions.
  • Ability to gather and organize data into a logical format for presentation in reports, documents and other written materials.
  • Ability to work independently and to plan, organize and coordinate work assignments.
  • Ability to assess training needs.
  • Ability to use desktop computers, including the MS operating system, and the MS Office software suite.
  • Ability to use JJIS.
  • Ability to meet deadlines.
  • Skill in instructor techniques.
  • Skill in building interpersonal relationships.
  • Ability to travel throughout the state.
