About The Position

The Divisional Safety Engineer is responsible for providing technical expertise, leadership, and strategic direction to ensure the division’s compliance with all environmental, health, and safety (EHS) regulations. This role partners closely with operations, engineering, maintenance, and leadership teams to identify risks, implement controls, and drive continuous improvement in safety performance across multiple sites. Provide EHS expertise, and practical support for Safety Excellence in all OFC manufacturing plants with the following objectives: a) ensure compliance with the rigorous safety program that protects the safety of our employees, contractors and visitors, b) maintain safety standards and governance processes aligned with the Corporation, and OFC training framework, c) develop technical solutions to improve safe manufacturing capability within North America. This role requires working within a complex manufacturing structure at a plant and division (OFC) level. The work is multi-dimensional in the areas of regional support and corporate regulations and compliance. It involves influencing sustainable change in cultural and technical aspects of manufacturing. This role will be considered focused mainly on managing projects in the North America region associated with Divisional Engineering and the Facilities organization.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of 3 - 5 years of experience in EHS and/or engineering and knowledge of process safety management requirements.
  • Demonstrated experience with managing contractors for projects in construction environments, where hazard exposure is higher and independent oversight is required.
  • Demonstrated manufacturing experience on a regional or multiple plant environment and cultures.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; both organization and presentation skills.
  • Strong knowledge of OSHA, EPA, NFPA, ANSI, and other regulatory standards

Responsibilities

  • Ensure compliance with OSHA, EPA, DOT, NFPA, and other applicable federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Responsible for providing oversite for Divisional Engineering projects to ensure work is being conducted in compliance with the federal, state and local Corporate Global Safety Solution and Divisional Contractor Standard Requirements.
  • Support Design for Safety and Robustness reviews in addition to project team design reviews to ensure the required assessments are completed to ensure hazards are addressed and mitigated prior to implementation phase.
  • Provide daily onsite safety leadership, including routine inspections, oversight of high‑risk work, permit administration (Hot Work, LOTO, etc.), and enforcement of PPE, safe work practices, and Corning/plant safety standards.
  • Conduct training and onboarding, including contractor safety training, safety orientations, Pre-startup safety plan indoctrination, and coordination of toolbox talks, weekly safety meetings, and pre‑job briefs.
  • Monitor and manage safety performance, maintaining safety metrics, scorecards, licensing/certification records, equipment inspections, and documentation of contractor work hours.
  • Investigate incidents and hazards, performing accident/near‑miss investigations, root cause analyses, job hazard analyses, and participating in construction planning to identify and control risks.
  • Collaborate with internal and external partners, working closely with divisional/plant safety teams, project leaders, facilities, contractors, and subcontractors to ensure compliance with safety programs and expectations.
  • Maintain proactive communication systems, ensuring employees can report unsafe conditions confidentially, providing timely feedback, and taking immediate corrective action when hazards are identified.
