About The Position

This position is responsible for the operation and development of existing camps within their division, managing the operation start up for new camps, partnering with field SVPs, construction and development staff on construction projects, donor relations, finance, assuring spiritual care of staff, and otherwise representing the Camping department in the division to which assigned and other divisions that are supervised. This position functions as a team member with the other Camping divisional coordinators, the Camping Services coordinator, the camp staff training and development coordinator and the vice president of Camping and their staff members to direct the operations of the camps. This position partners with the senior field vice presidents of the divisions they supervise to respond to the current camping needs of the field and strategic development and identification of future needs. All camps share a common purpose: creating an environment where Young Life staff bring Christ to life by creatively presenting the complete gospel of Jesus Christ. Speaking clearly from the Scriptures, camp speakers introduce kids to the person of Christ, the nature of humanity, the work of Christ on the cross, the hope of the resurrection and the opportunity for reconciliation with God. Requirements

Young Life shall only employ individuals or enlist volunteer leaders who: (a) profess a belief in Jesus Christ as their personal Savior and Lord; and (b) subscribe to the statements and policies required of all Young Life staff, including the Young Life Statement of Faith.
Employees and volunteers of Young Life, during working and nonworking hours, shall: (i) be ready, willing and able to fulfill such ministry functions as may be required by the organization; (ii) refrain from conduct and statements that detract from the biblical standards taught and supported by Young Life, and (iii) abide by all policies and practices of Young Life including, without limitation, those related to religious belief or ministry activities.
Four-year college degree required
At least three years of general management and supervisory experience.
Demonstrate thorough knowledge and effective involvement in ministry.
Has proven leadership and relationship skills required to build a high-performing trusting team, communicate effectively, delegate responsibility and offer accountability.
Demonstrate operational disciplines including prioritizing, analyzing data, and developing and executing systems.
Exhibition of a mastery understanding in the Young Life mission and camping operational policies.
Staff must be able to convey a sense of Christ-like hospitality and concern for guests and staff.
Responding to the unexpected needs of a guest in a prompt and professional manner is important.
All staff members are expected to represent Young Life positively and professionally within the community and be able to work with and minister to the volunteer high school and college-age young people who attend our camp.

Responsibilities

Help ensure the health, safety and security of all guests and staff as the Mission, Vision, Values and Methods of Young Life are implemented at camps within the division supervised.
Intentionally provide opportunities for staff to grow deeper in their relationship with Jesus. Demonstrate a deep relationship with Jesus, a commitment to spiritual formation and an understanding of your personal ministry to others. With support from supervisor, develop an annual personal spiritual growth plan by utilizing the Individual Development Plan for yourself and ensure that all staff are developing an annual spiritual growth plan as well. Foster an environment where camp managers have opportunities for ongoing spiritual development, including execution of their personal spiritual growth plan. Call staff and volunteers to the common vision for individuals to encounter Jesus and know the truth of God’s love for them. Uphold and live out the CLT covenant commitments and practices. Perform sacerdotal duties, as appropriate.
Equip servant leaders who anticipate and respond to the needs of our guests, staff and vendors, through Christlike service. Ensure each camp within the division has an established culture of service and facility preparation that anticipates guest needs and responds with professionalism through intentional decisions and systems. Demonstrate an understanding that hospitality is an essential role of the Camping department. Convey to supervised camps any operational issues discussed and acted upon by the Camping Leadership Team. Ensure camp managers are practicing attentive hospitality with camp directors, camp committee members and divisional SVP.
Help build relationships that reflect the character of God with guests, staff, vendors and neighbors to foster healthy community. Ensure camp staff demonstrate the importance of their interpersonal relationships with guests, staff, vendors and neighbors and promote a healthy community. Develop strategies to solicit feedback from principle field staff who utilize different camps. Attend at least one camp committee meeting a year for a camp. Build and equip a team that reflects the worldwide body of Christ. Collaborate with the field senior vice president, vice president of Camping, regional directors, and area staff on all matters involving use of camps as an environment where the gospel is proclaimed. Ensure camp managers are partnering with their camp’s committee in order to hear and appropriately respond to the concerns and desires of the Young Life staff they represent. Participate with national leadership and peers in training events and opportunities.
Manage with integrity the finances, people, and camps that have been entrusted to our ministry. Ensure camp managers and other supervised staff are being developed and equipped to participate in comprehensive stewardship of our ministry. As a participant in mission leadership, determine fundraising priorities and funds for the further capital development of camps. Ensure every camp manager’s cultivation and maintenance of donor relationships is in collaboration with Young Life’s development team. Partner with the development committee or individual for each camp as established by the appropriate senior field vice president, maintaining appropriate donor relations for supervised camps. Carry out the responsibilities of supervising the operations manager of a camp if a camp manager is not separately assigned. This includes affiliate camp managers, if they are not specifically assigned to a different camp manager. Oversee, audit and sign off on each supervised camp’s five-year plan and its annual update. This includes major maintenance planning and expansion planning. Establish and facilitate a divisional leadership team that conducts meetings on at least a monthly basis. Work with the director of construction to facilitate and determine the Primary Mission Projects for each camp supervised. Assist in different phases of capital construction planning. This involves the coordination of the specific camp’s operations and logistics impacted by the new project and construction, partnering with the Development department (timing and cash flow of gifts) and on-site project management. Manage and evaluate comprehensive stewardship in partnership with Camping Services.
Through a consistent and accountable evaluation process, we identify and provide opportunities for staff in continuing education, leadership development, career-pathing and cross-training. Demonstrate a desire to grow through engagement in the Individual Development Plan process and participation in training and development opportunities. Foster divisional camp staff participation in the Individual Development Plan process as well as other training and development opportunities. Identify and develop staff suitable for additional leadership opportunities. Intentionally pursue opportunities in mission leadership, personal growth and development. Execute the recruitment, hiring and onboarding process for building a diverse and qualified team. Work with the senior vice president of Camping to establish Camping Leadership Team meeting and Camping Summit schedules and associated agendas. This includes leading portions of these meetings and/or associated conference and video calls. Train or arrange training for supervised camp managers on specific duties and responsibilities they are not familiar with, as well as for new methods or procedures that may be adopted by the department. This includes onboarding new camp managers. Ensure completion and documentation of annual performance evaluations and salary reviews with all staff.
Ensure divisional camp planning and operations are consistent with the national board and Camping department policies and are within the standards and metrics required for excellence. When Young Life is searching for another camp, participate as defined by the new camp development matrix. Annually lead and participate in the camp calendar and analysis process to estimate and predict future camping trends and opportunities, including the right-sizing of camp schedules for the future. Review, comment on and be responsible for the timely submittal of documents by each supervised entity to the Camping Services office and/or other authorities, including, but not limited to: financial reports, personnel actions, master plan and fundraising priority information, camp dates, allocation of camp spots, and staffing for work crew, summer staff and assignment team staffing. Coordinate and work with the senior vice president of Camping to schedule periodic visits to all camps supervised to inspect quality, be available to the staff and consult with other coordinators and managers. Provide reports to the senior vice president of Camping as requested. Participate as a member of Young Life’s Camping Leadership Team and other mission responsibilities as assigned. Participate with other coordinators and the senior vice president of Camping in formulating new policies and procedures for the department and obtain understanding, acceptance and support of these policies and procedures from and camp managers for whom responsible. Ensure compliance with governmental agencies whose jurisdiction affect camp operations. Cast vision and set the pace for a healthy attitude and commitment to continuous improvement of the camp environment. Ensure the creation of distraction-free environments that represent the multi-faceted love of God through the quality of facilities and the camp experience.
