Kids in the Game is seeking a seasonal Division Leader / Off-Site Lead for their Westchester day camp. This role is crucial for empowering staff, inspiring campers, and building a meaningful summer experience. Kids in the Game provides unforgettable day camp experiences across multiple locations, and the leadership cohort is a vital part of running outstanding programming. The camp emphasizes a blend of sports, creativity, and community to shape confident, compassionate, and connected children. The program offers a mix of sports, games, arts and crafts, STEM enrichment, field trips, swim activities, and special events. Requirements

  • Possess at least 2+ years of experience working with campers required.
  • Experience leading recreation programs/activities.
  • Experience leading groups of varying sizes.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with fellow employees, participants, parents, and caregivers.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and in a timely fashion with participants, families, and caregivers, both verbally and non-verbally.
  • Demonstrates practical problem-solving skills in a variety of situations.
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to walk to and from nearby program locations or parks.
  • Ability to bend, kneel, crouch, and reach.
  • Ability to climb stairs.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 25–40 pounds.
  • Ability to participate in active games and movement-based activities.
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Ability to maintain visual and auditory awareness to supervise children effectively.
  • Must be able to arrive by 7:45 am daily.
  • Must be able to stay on-site until 4:15 pm daily.
  • Must be able to stay on-site until 5:30 pm twice per week for aftercare.
  • Must be available to work full time from late June to the end of August.
  • Must complete all virtual and in-person trainings.
  • Must attend and support all on-site training days.
  • Must attend scheduled CPR/First Aid/AED training.
  • Must pass a NY State run background check.
  • Up to date Physical and TB test documentation will be required before starting.

Nice To Haves

  • Being DOE or DOH fingerprinted is a plus.
  • Possessing knowledge of another language on top of English is a plus.
  • Being CPR, First Aid and AED certified is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee a division of 3-4 camper groups (approx. 10-15 campers per group) and directly support 6-8 counselors.
  • Support daily operations within the division, including camper supervision, group management, and real-time problem-solving.
  • Address camper needs, manage behavior with empathy, and maintain a positive and structured environment.
  • Serve as a primary coach and mentor to counselors, providing guidance on group leadership, camper engagement, and communication.
  • Collaborate with Camp Director and Assistant Directors to align the division with overall camp goals.
  • Support special events and off-site supervision, modeling Kids in the Game’s core values.
  • Manage logistics for travel to nearby parks, swim facilities, and field trip locations, including busing, transportation routes, permission slips, ticket management, and supervision during off-site activities.
  • Maintain health and safety protocols and manage risk factors during off-site activities.
  • Serve as the point person for vendor communication and relationships for off-site activities.
  • Act as a visible, trusted leader for campers, counselors, and families, modeling leadership with care, confidence, and purpose.
  • Bring energy, encouragement, and optimism to the division, helping staff and campers navigate challenges.
  • Support campers’ social and emotional needs with patience and understanding, coaching counselors on age-appropriate responses.
  • Show up prepared, reliable, and engaged each day, following through on responsibilities.
  • Take initiative in problem-solving, team-building, and continuous improvement.
  • Ensure every camper feels welcomed, supported, and able to participate fully.
  • Foster a team-oriented, respectful environment among campers and staff.
  • Assist Assistant Directors with the execution of weekly themes, special events, and division-level activities.
  • Support activity setup, transitions, and modifications.
  • Collaborate with camp leadership to ensure smooth daily schedules and special programming days.
  • Develop and lead “Team Time” games and division-based bonding activities.
  • Ensure all park, trip, and swim experiences meet Department of Health standards and safety procedures.
  • Check park safety daily and conduct regular visits to ensure safety standards are met.
  • Maintain appropriate staffing ratios (1:5) at all times.
  • Conduct pre-trip safety checks (materials, headcounts, meds, waivers, consent forms, emergency contacts, buddy system).
  • Monitor weather, route changes, and partner communication for safety decisions.
  • Lead staff huddles before and after each off-site experience.
  • Support in leading staff training on emergency response, first aid, and camper management.
  • Respond to behavioral, medical, or environmental incidents calmly and effectively.
  • Maintain a culture of psychological safety.
  • Organize and confirm daily and weekly transportation plans.
  • Provide training to other camp staff on off-site travel procedures.
  • Review safety and supervision procedures prior to all on-site travel.
  • Ensure campers understand safety procedures for various activities.
  • Maintain accurate and updated group rosters and consent forms.
  • Confirm pre-purchased tickets/reservations and manage headcounts.
  • Prepare trip packs.
  • Coordinate swim groups, transitions, and ratio coverage.
  • Communicate off-site travel plans and tasks proactively.
  • Attend Division Leader meetings and check-ins.
  • Connect with camp counselors and build relationships.
  • Support the Admin Assistant Director in creating camper rosters.
  • Connect with Assistant Directors about programming and off-site trips.
  • Review weekly summer camp theme guides.
  • Help with activity modifications.
  • Develop go-to “Team Time” games.
  • Attend Camp Leadership meetings and check-ins.
  • Support summer prep and staff retention efforts.
  • Participate in team-building activities and small team outings.
  • Support additional camp marketing and connect with families.
  • Participate in camp fairs/events to promote the camp and answer parent questions.
  • Attend Division Leader / Off-Site Lead Trainings.
  • Attend scheduled orientations/trainings, including 3 full days of on-site training.
  • Participate in CPR/First Aid/AED training.
  • Work for the agreed-upon employment dates, with any requested time off approved by the People & Culture Department.
  • Support aftercare rotation at least 2 days per week.
