About The Position

Reporting to the Corporate Controller, the Division Controller, Operations leads a team responsible for financial reporting, internal controls and strategic analysis of the business areas within their division. They will analyze complex financial information, identify opportunities to enhance profitability and effectively communicate actionable insights to various stakeholders. In this strategic leadership role, the Division Controller will immerse themselves within operations and stay abreast of relevant industry and economic trends while proactively forging strong partnerships with key business leaders to influence financial performance. They will drive the continuous improvement of financial processes and systems within their business areas while also directing initiatives to engage and develop their teams to foster a high-performing culture.

Requirements

  • University degree in accounting, finance, or business.
  • Professional Accounting Designation: CPA (CA, CMA, or CGA).
  • 10+ years of accounting experience in medium to large organizations with progressively more challenging roles and responsibilities.
  • 5+ years management experience leading a team of professionals and demonstrating effectiveness with engaging and developing teams.
  • Comprehensive understanding of end-to-end business processes and ERP systems (SAP/D365/PowerBI).
  • Advanced experience with MS-Office.
  • Mastery of accounting principles and standards (ASPE/IFRS) with knowledge in Petroleum and/or Agriculture industry.
  • Accomplished strategic thinker with superior analytical aptitude showing proficiency in financial modeling and data analysis.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, proven ability to influence and align cross-functional teams toward shared financial objectives and communicate complex financial concepts to non-financial stakeholders.
  • Self-motivated and results oriented with proven ability to work with limited supervision, prioritize tasks, and manage deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the accounting processes and systems to ensure financial transactions are timely, accurate, complete and in compliance with accounting principles, internal policies, and regulatory requirements. Ensure adequacy of internal controls and financial risk management practices.
  • Direct the production of various financial reports that support the decision making of business leaders or meet external compliance requirements. Design new KPIs and reports that increase financial clarity and improve financial performance. Communicate complex financial information effectively to stakeholders.
  • Conduct the modeling and analysis of financial data, variances, trends, and performance metrics. Provide forecasting and decision support for capital requests, business cases and special projects. Identify financial risks and develop mitigation strategies. Present insights and recommendations to senior leadership.
  • Drive the budgeting process, partnering with business leaders to develop actionable plans, address variances, ensure alignment and promote accountability. Oversee the preparation of templates, compiling of information and execution of consolidated reporting.
  • Coordinate with external audits, including the submission of key deliverables and responding to auditor inquiries. In addition, support internal auditors on various projects and initiatives.
  • Collaborate across functional groups to drive efficiencies through process improvement and financial system enhancements. Leverage technology for automation opportunities and enhanced self-serve reporting.
  • Lead and mentor a team of finance professionals. Foster a high-performing culture focused on inclusion, respect, accountability and appreciation.
