About The Position

The Oklahoma Indigent Defense System (OIDS) is the statewide public defender agency which provides legal representation to indigent clients throughout the State of Oklahoma, with the exception of Oklahoma and Tulsa counties. OIDS is currently seeking a full-time Division Chief to manage the Capital Trial Division - Sapulpa office. This position is responsible for the day-to-day administration of the division. This includes all tasks and responsibilities required for providing legal representation and administrative functions such as case management, division budget, and other administrative functions.

Requirements

  • Juris Doctorate from an accredited law school
  • Member in good standing of the Oklahoma Bar Association
  • Three (3) years of relevant criminal law experience
  • Relevant management experience
  • Must abide by the Oklahoma Rules of Professional Conduct, (5 O.S. Chapter 1, Appendix 3-A).
  • Must comply with the Continuing Legal Education (CLE) requirements of the Oklahoma Bar Association and the agency.
  • Job-related travel is required for this position.

Responsibilities

  • Provides direct legal representation to agency clients as required.
  • Performs administrative, management, and supervisory duties.
  • Ensures day-to-day administrative duties and functions are performed by monitoring and supervising division’s operation.
  • This includes monitoring the division budget and reviewing financial statements and reports.
  • Requests for professional services for effective legal representation.
  • Recommends short- and long-range goals for the division.
  • Develops and implements organizational structure for the division to maximize existing resources to increase the quality of legal representation and effectiveness.
  • Coordinates and facilitates cooperation with individuals working for the justice system outside the agency.
  • Assigns attorneys within the division to trial teams.
  • Performs other tasks to ensure the highest quality of legal representation is provided.
  • Supervises staff by providing on-going review of attorney caseloads, assisting, and observing staff in all aspects of the trial, ensuring compliance with all applicable court policies, procedures, and rules, coaching and mentoring, and other administrative supervisory functions.
  • Performs other duties as assigned
