About The Position

The Department of Medicine at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health seeks an accomplished, collaborative, and visionary physician-leader to serve as the next Division Chief of Cardiovascular Medicine. This is an exceptional opportunity for an Associate Professor or Professor to lead one of the nation's premier academic cardiovascular programs and shape the future of cardiovascular care, education, and discovery. We seek a physician-researcher with a distinguished national reputation whose scholarship may span basic, translational, clinical, population, health services, or implementation science. Equally important is a demonstrated ability to lead clinical operations and innovate in care delivery. The ideal candidate will have a proven record of advancing quality, access, and operational excellence within a complex healthcare environment while supporting the growth of an outstanding academic research enterprise through faculty recruitment, mentorship, and interdisciplinary collaboration. Candidates who have successfully developed research programs and mentored investigators are encouraged to apply, regardless of whether they currently lead an independent laboratory. The next Chief will have the opportunity to build upon nationally recognized strengths in arrhythmia and ion-channel biology, preventive cardiology and vascular imaging, interventional and structural heart disease, heart failure, pulmonary hypertension, and cardiovascular transplantation. The Division's research enterprise is supported by more than $6 million in annual direct research funding, the Cardiovascular Research Center, outstanding campus-wide research infrastructure, and extensive collaborations across the University of Wisconsin. The Division also oversees five highly competitive ACGME-accredited fellowship programs in Cardiovascular Disease, Advanced Heart Failure and Transplant Cardiology, Adult Congenital Heart Disease, Interventional Cardiology, and Clinical Cardiac Electrophysiology. The successful candidate will champion educational excellence while mentoring the next generation of clinicians, scientists, and physician-leaders. The Division delivers nationally recognized cardiovascular care through UW Health, Wisconsin's #1 hospital for 14 consecutive years, and the William S. Middleton Memorial Veterans Hospital. Working closely with partners across the Department of Medicine, UW Health, the School of Medicine and Public Health, and surgical and imaging specialties, the Division Chief will further strengthen an integrated cardiovascular program that delivers exceptional patient outcomes across Wisconsin and beyond. The Department of Medicine is one of the nation's leading academic departments, with 11 divisions, approximately 1,600 faculty, staff, and learners, more than $152 million in annual extramural research funding, a nationally recognized Internal Medicine Residency Program, and 23 fellowship programs. Guided by our values of innovation, health equity, kindness, professional fulfillment, and impact in Wisconsin and beyond, we are committed to developing leaders who transform medicine through discovery, education, partnership, and exceptional patient care. This is a rare opportunity to lead an outstanding cardiovascular program with a strong foundation, exceptional institutional support, and tremendous opportunity for continued growth and national impact.
