About The Position

As a Dive Supervisor at Ballard, you will lead the planning and execution of commercial diving operations on technically demanding marine construction projects. You will direct the dive team, make critical field decisions, and ensure every operation is properly planned, staffed, equipped, and executed safely. This role works closely with Operations, project leadership, clients, and craft teams to deliver underwater construction, inspection, maintenance, and repair work in challenging marine environments. We are looking for someone with the experience and judgment to lead from the front and keep complex dive operations moving safely and effectively.

Requirements

  • Diploma from an ADCI-compliant commercial diving school
  • Current ADCI Dive Supervisor certification required
  • Current First Aid, CPR, AED, and Oxygen Administration certifications required
  • Current commercial dive physical required when performing diving duties
  • OSHA 10-Hour Construction certification required
  • Valid Driver’s License required
  • Own commercial dive gear required when performing diving duties
  • 5 years’ experience commercial diving experience, including demonstrated experience supervising dive operations
  • Experience leading underwater construction, inspection, maintenance, and repair activities in marine environments
  • Experience planning dive operations, directing crews, managing dive documentation, and responding to changing field conditions
  • Experience coordinating with project leadership, clients, and field crews during active marine construction operations
  • Strong knowledge of commercial diving operations, equipment, life-support systems, decompression procedures, and applicable dive standards
  • Strong understanding of underwater construction methods, including rigging, cutting, burning, welding, and inspection activities
  • Ability to lead dive teams, assign work, maintain operational control, and make sound field decisions
  • Strong hazard recognition, emergency response, and problem-solving skills.
  • Clear verbal and written communication with dive teams, project leadership, clients, and field personnel
  • Strong documentation and reporting skills, including dive plans, logs, JHAs, and daily reports.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and the ability to learn tablet-based safety and project reporting systems

Responsibilities

  • Lead and supervise all commercial diving operations, including underwater construction, inspection, maintenance, and repair work
  • Plan each dive, assign team responsibilities, conduct pre-dive briefings, and maintain operational control throughout the dive
  • Ensure dive personnel, equipment, life-support systems, communications, and surface support are qualified, compliant, and ready for the planned operation
  • Monitor required dive parameters, including depth, bottom time, breathing mix, and decompression requirements
  • Maintain dive plans, JHAs, dive logs, checklists, reports, decompression tables, treatment schedules, and other required operational documentation
  • Ensure diving operations comply with Ballard procedures, project requirements, and applicable regulatory standards
  • Develop and maintain emergency and contingency procedures, including medical support and two-way communication
  • Coordinate with Operations, project leadership, field crews, and clients on scope, schedule, changing conditions, and safety concerns.
  • Exercise authority to stop or modify diving operations when conditions, equipment, or personnel create unacceptable risk
