About The Position

CVS Health District Support Pharmacists travel within a district to cover pharmacist scheduling gaps and support pharmacy teams under the direction of the Pharmacy Manager and Rx District Leader. While working in district stores, the pharmacist supports pharmacy management, oversight, and operations, and may serve as the Pharmacy Manager’s proxy during shifts without overlap or assume the manager’s day-to-day duties when the only or primary pharmacist on duty. The role centers on safe dispensing, patient counseling, immunizations, clinical care, and creating compassionate, positive patient experiences. It also includes supporting pharmacy workflow, inventory practices, team development, compliance, and patient privacy and safety. The position requires flexibility to meet scheduling and business needs, including nights and weekends, and travel within a reasonable radius.

Requirements

• Active pharmacist license in the state where the store is located.
• Active National Provider Identifier (NPI).
• Must not be on the DEA Excluded Parties list.
• Ability to travel within a reasonable radius to support market staffing needs.
• Ability to concentrate, shift between tasks, and verify prescription information and label accuracy.
• Customer-service and team-orientation skills, including responding appropriately to patients’ reactions.
• Verbal and written communication skills for interacting with patients and colleagues, including active listening.
• Mathematical reasoning skills for prescription calculations, such as quantities and days’ supply.
• Problem-resolution skills to select an appropriate course of action in challenging patient or colleague interactions.
• Ability to meet the stated physical demands, including remaining upright for extended periods, reaching, repetitive finger movements, bending, visual work, and lifting or exerting force as described in the posting.

• 1–2 years of related work experience in a pharmacy, retail, medical, or customer service setting.

Responsibilities

• Help manage and improve patient health through safe and appropriate dispensing, counseling, and immunizing practices.
• Travel within the district to fill pharmacist shifts scheduled by the District Performance Coordinator.
• Oversee pharmacy operations and serve as the Pharmacy Manager’s proxy during bench shifts without overlap.
• Assume the Pharmacy Manager’s day-to-day duties when serving as the only or primary pharmacist on duty.
• Support safe and accurate prescription fulfillment by following and directing the pharmacy team to follow workflow procedures and safety guardrails.
• Create positive patient experiences through compassionate care, collaboration with patients’ healthcare teams, and proactive resolution of insurance or medication issues.
• Offer and deliver immunizations, and support Pharmacy Technicians in learning to immunize.
• Support effective pharmacy inventory management and adherence to inventory best practices, including protection of cold chain products.
• Remain flexible to meet scheduling and business needs and contribute to a safe, inclusive, and engaging team dynamic.
• Maintain clinical and technical skills through required training and continuing medical education, and seek opportunities to expand knowledge.
• Support access to care and patient outcomes through pharmacist-delivered clinical services, such as testing and prescribing, where permissible.
• Comply with applicable laws, regulations, professional standards, ethical principles, and CVS Health policies and procedures, including requirements for controlled substances, recordkeeping, patient privacy, security, and workplace safety.
• Attend work regularly and predictably, including nights and weekends.
• Complete required training within the designated timeframe.
• Perform other tasks as directed by a supervisor or manager.
