About The Position

The Watauga County District Attorney's office seeks a qualified candidate to provide support services. This role involves answering the telephone and interacting with the public and law enforcement, setting up physical files in felony cases, generating criminal histories through DCI and structured sentencing worksheets through CJLeads, requesting officer' initial incident reports and any additional discovery, and gathering information to assist in the prosecution of cases. The position requires the ability to communicate verbally and in writing with persons of diverse backgrounds, establish and maintain effective working relationships with law enforcement officers, officials of related agencies and the general public, calmly handle stressful situations and de-escalate potential conflicts, and be comfortable using multiple, cloud-based technologies.

Requirements

  • Ability to communicate verbally and in writing with persons of diverse backgrounds.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with law enforcement officers, officials of related agencies and the general public.
  • Ability to calmly handle stressful situations and de-escalate potential conflicts.
  • Comfortable using multiple, cloud-based technologies.
  • Knowledge of court system and procedures.
  • Knowledge of legal terminology.
  • Knowledge of community resources to refer victims and witnesses.
  • Skill in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint software.
  • Ability to accurately type 45 wpm.
  • Ability to interview to elicit information from victims and witnesses to assure appropriate services.
  • Graduation from high school or high school equivalency certificate.
  • Two (2) years of legal secretarial experience.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of Enterprise Justice/Odyssey, eWarrants, eDiscovery, and Axon is a plus.

Responsibilities
