About The Position

The Office of the District Attorney, Prosecutorial District 10, seeks a qualified candidate to provide legal support services to the prosecutors in the Wake County office. This is a permanent, part-time position working 30 hours per week. The role involves greeting and assisting members of the public, attorneys, and law enforcement personnel, answering and routing phone calls, and assisting with general front desk operations. The ideal candidate will possess strong interpersonal skills, the ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment, and a commitment to providing respectful and professional service at all times. They must be able to communicate effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds, including those who may be upset or emotional, and maintain composure while handling difficult or high-stress interactions.

Requirements

  • Graduation from high school or high school equivalency certificate.
  • Two (2) years of legal secretarial experience.
  • Knowledge of court system and procedures.
  • Knowledge of legal terminology.
  • Knowledge of community resources to refer victims and witnesses.
  • Skill in Microsoft Office Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
  • Accurately typing 35-40 wpm.
  • Skill in answering a multi-line telephone system.

Responsibilities

  • Answering and routing phone calls and assisting with general front desk operations.

  • Interviewing to elicit information from victims and witnesses to assure appropriate services.
  • Coordinating and scheduling the daily operations of the victim and witness program.
  • Managing the court appearances of victims and witnesses to ensure their presence in the courtroom when needed.
  • Communicating orally and in writing with persons of diverse backgrounds.
  • Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with law enforcement officers, officials of related agencies and the general public.
  • Calmly handling stressful situations.
