About The Position

Performs intermediate skilled trades work participating in the maintenance and repair of water mains and service lines, and related work as apparent or assigned. Work is performed under the limited supervision of the Distribution System Superintendent.

Requirements

• General knowledge of the materials, methods, and techniques used in water distribution system maintenance and repair.
• General knowledge of occupational hazards and necessary safety precautions for the work.
• Ability to use hand tools and power tools.
• Ability to operate a backhoe, jackhammer, and other large pieces of equipment.
• Ability to read blueprints and specifications.
• Ability to maintain records and prepare reports.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with local officials, associates, and customers.
• High school diploma or equivalent, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for the job.
• Valid driver’s license.

Responsibilities

• Installs new water taps, service connections, meters, valves, and hydrants.
• Reads meters on a monthly cycle and locks customer meters for non-payment of bills.
• Performs routine maintenance on hydrants, valves, meters and meter boxes, and end-of-waterline blow-off assemblies.
• Locates utility water lines for contractors, homeowners, and construction.
• Repairs leaks in water mains and service lines.
• Performs ground maintenance at distribution facilities, water tower sites, and pump stations.
• Performs other assigned duties.
