We are looking to hire a Distribution Supervisor in our Gouverneur, NY paper mill to oversee the daily operations within the shipping and roll wrapping departments. This role requires strong leadership skills, attention to detail, knowledge of logistics and inventory management, and the ability to work closely with other departments to ensure smooth operations. Requirements

  • High school diploma required
  • Working knowledge of current DOT/CSA laws and experience guiding drivers in compliance
  • Proven supervisory experience – preferably in a warehouse, distribution, or logistics environment
  • Proficiency with warehouse management systems and inventory systems
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Excel and Word is required.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Must be able to communicate with all levels of employees.

Nice To Haves

  • a two-year degree is preferred
  • JDEdwards Experience is a plus.
  • Knowledgeable experience with Food/Product Safety requirements is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise staff in the shipping and roll wrapping departments, ensuring tasks are completed efficiently.
  • Handle disciplinary actions when necessary.
  • Authorize and sign off on employee schedules and payroll.
  • Collaborate with mill supervisors and HR to fill vacancies.
  • Evaluate the performance of employees and provide feedback.
  • Ensure new employees are properly trained to perform their tasks safely and efficiently.
  • Monitor and maintain accurate inventories of finished products, ensuring adherence to FIFO inventory management practices.
  • Coordinate with the customer service team to schedule shipments, prepare bills of lading, and verify inventories.
  • Work with IT to resolve any issues with computerized programs used for tally sheets and bundle labels.
  • Ensure all receiving paperwork is processed accurately.
  • Manage and oversee the staging of loads in the warehouse when needed.
  • Lead the roll wrapping and shipping teams to ensure a continuous flow of finished products to trucks or inventory.
  • Promote and maintain a safe working environment, following safety protocols.
  • Actively participate in the company’s safety program, including training and investigations.
  • Track production schedules to meet customer order delivery deadlines.
  • Plan and schedule shipments of customer purchase orders to meet required delivery dates.
  • Adjust trucking schedules to reduce costs associated with overtime, detention charges, etc.
  • Seek out alternative carriers to provide cost-effective and high-quality service.
  • Actively participate in production planning with the Production Scheduler.
  • Work closely with the Operations Team to ensure production adherence, adjust as necessary due to operational needs.
  • Work closely with the sales team to meet both internal and external needs and report any issues with quality or service.
  • Work with the Operations group in the receiving of raw materials, notably pulp.
  • Ensure all company drivers and transportation operations comply with applicable DOT/FMCSA regulations
  • Responsible for a local off-site warehouse and staff. Finished goods are shipped from this warehouse.
  • Assist in daily, monthly, quarterly, and yearly closing reports.
  • Responsible for mid-month shipping (sales forecast).
  • Maintain leases and contracts and schedule maintenance/inspections for shipping department assets.
  • Ensure proper logistics for rejected products and materials.
  • Set up all outgoing freight shipments.
  • Participate in the Mill’s weekend duty assignment (about once every three months)
  • Other duties as assigned by management.
