About The Position

The Distribution Operator is responsible for coordinating and creating switching for the outage of distribution lines and equipment for testing. Under directive supervision, they coordinate and operate electric distribution facilities and dispatch electric and gas outage and trouble notifications. This role involves typical maintenance and repairs to ensure service continuity in cooperation with Section Operators and Division operating personnel. The operator issues switching orders for de-energizing, grounding, tagging, and re-energizing distribution facilities, ensuring strict adherence to Electric Switching and Tagging Procedures and standard procedures for gas operations. They perform analyses of distribution circuits for proper operation in real-time and for contingency conditions, and make initial analyses of electric outages/trouble, initiating actions to minimize interruptions. In a lead role when assigned, they oversee overall distribution switching operations. The operator monitors supervisory controlled electric distribution devices, logs data, keeps records up to date, and updates system diagrams and programs to reflect current field conditions. They receive electric/gas trouble and outage calls and dispatch crews using the Outage Management System. Additionally, they recognize unusual conditions and inform responsible personnel, and perform other related or less skilled work as required.

Requirements

• BA in Electrical Engineering / AAS in Electrical Engineering Technology or a passing score on a test designed by the Company or a provider approved by the Company.
• Successful completion of Company administered aptitude test.
• Will be expected to absorb Company training in Distribution Operating work, measured by appropriate job knowledge tests. This includes general knowledge of the operation of generating stations, transmission and distribution lines, substations, gas distribution systems, geography of Company territory, Company Safety Rules, Switching and Tagging Procedures , protection systems, and standard procedures for gas operations.

Responsibilities

• Oversees overall distribution switching operations in a lead role when assigned.

• Logs data and keeps records up to date.
• Updates system diagrams and programs to conform with current field conditions.
• Receives electric/gas trouble and outage calls and dispatches crews via the Outage Management System.
• Recognizes unusual conditions and situations and informs responsible Corporate or Division operating personnel.
