About The Position

The Distribution Operator is responsible for installing, repairing, and replacing water lines, meters, valves, and hydrants using company equipment. This role also involves maintaining shop inventory, operating machinery, completing daily work orders, and performing general landscaping and maintenance tasks at plant sites, offices, and within the distribution system. The operator will also load and unload materials, assist with chemical handling, operate various tools and test instruments, and adhere to all safety rules and regulations. The position includes performing routine operational duties, learning more complex assignments, and responding to emergency repairs at irregular hours. This role requires the ability to be on-call 24 hours, work variable hours, overtime, weekends, and holidays, and may involve stand-by duties and emergency response.

Requirements

  • General knowledge of equipment used in water distribution or treatment processes (pumps, motors, valves, meters, generators, compressors).
  • Ability to recognize and use tools and equipment for limited equipment repairs.
  • Knowledge of safe and proper operation of hand and power tools, pick-up trucks, tractors, and similar vehicles.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Valid Michigan driver’s license in good standing.
  • Ability to receive EGLE Level 2 Water Distribution certification within two years after hire.

Responsibilities

  • Operate company backhoe to install, repair, and replace water lines, meters, valves, and hydrants.
  • Maintain shop inventory, operate machinery, and complete daily work orders.
  • Perform general landscaping and maintenance tasks within plant sites, office, and distribution system.
  • Load and unload materials and equipment.
  • Assist in the delivery, storage, and transfer of chemicals.
  • Operate various hand and power tools and test instruments.
  • Learn and apply all safety rules and regulations.
  • Perform routine operational duties and learn to perform more complex or critical assignments.
  • Respond to and perform emergency repairs at irregular hours.
  • Be subject to 24-hour on call, variable working hours, overtime, weekends, and holidays.
  • Perform stand-by duties and respond to emergencies.
