Requirements

  • Must be a Journeyman Lineman possessing IBEW Journeyman Lineman status in good standing.
  • Must be a Journeyman electrical worker who has completed an accredited apprenticeship program.
  • Must be able to perform heavy manual labor, lifting a minimum of 60-75 pounds.
  • Will be required to work on steel and wood structures.
  • Prior climbing experience is required.
  • Must have demonstrated ability to absorb formal training and schooling.
  • Must demonstrate and maintain good safety habits.
  • Valid Driver's License required; will be required to obtain and maintain a Class A CA Driver's license.
  • Applicants must meet all DOT requirements for safety-sensitive positions.

Nice To Haves

  • Underground system experience with 200 and 600 AMP systems is desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Works on poles up to 100 feet and steel structures on lines up to 230 kilovolts (kV).
  • Uses Live Line Tools up to 69 kV and may use the rubber gloving method up to 12 kV.
  • May work from the bucket of an aerial lift truck and operate mechanized line trucks or other trucks.
  • Installs electric meters rated less than 200 amperes.
  • Installs and maintains electric service lines and metering equipment, primary and secondary voltages.
  • Installs and makes repairs to overhead & underground lines carrying primary and secondary voltages.
  • Installs wood, steel, concrete, and fiberglass poles.
  • Installs fuses, service drops, and electric meters.
  • Installs cross arms, insulators, conductors, switches, transformers, and other equipment on both overhead and underground systems.
  • Operates line switches.
  • On new installations, climbs poles and attaches building service wires to overhead electric distribution lines and installs electric meters.
  • Connects service wire leads, inserts fuses, and tests meters for proper voltage and operation.
  • Requires standing, climbing gaffs, and steel pole climbing.
  • Lifts an assembled 10-foot crossarm weighing 80 pounds with hardware from belt height while standing in climbing gaffs on a pole, supported by a body belt and safety strap.
  • Opens or removes substructure covers, including rectangular metal handhole "doors" or round metal manhole covers weighing up to 108 pounds (using a lifting tool for manholes).
  • Pulls loadbreak elbows from padmount or rack-mounted equipment using a hotstick.
  • Lifts and carries 60-75 pound tools, materials, or equipment from the ground to the truck bed.
  • Works in a variety of terrain, weather, and other conditions, including temperatures up to 110 degrees Fahrenheit.
  • Periodically required to work extended overtime shifts.

Benefits

  • Wage Schedule: $77.92 per hour
  • This position adheres to Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations and will be subject to drug and alcohol testing as required by 49 CFR Part 40, 199, and 382, respectively.
  • This is a Union Represented position - Represented by Local IBEW 465.
