About The Position

This position is for a Distribution Fitter B at CNG - CT - East Hartford - Meadow St. The role involves installing and grading plastic & steel mains and services lines, preparing and installing mechanical fittings for piping installation and repair, and operating various tools and equipment safely. The job also includes driving trucks, maintaining equipment, performing manual labor, and potentially acting as an Inspector or Leak Detection Surveyor. Employees in this role will learn and assist in duties of higher classifications for promotion opportunities and must perform all duties in accordance with the Company's safety practices. This is a DOT safety-sensitive position requiring after-hours and weekend emergency coverage on a rotating basis, a pre-employment drug screen (if transferring from a non-safety-sensitive role), a current CDL medical exam certification, and passing a respirator medical qualification test.

Requirements

  • Must be a graduate of high school, trade school or equivalent.
  • Must be able to read, write and speak English effectively.
  • Must have a CDL-B license, or better and a good driving record.
  • Must demonstrate a mechanical aptitude, a sufficient amount of strength and ability to perform all duties of the classification.
  • Must be able to comprehend, carry out oral and written instructions.
  • Any applicant transferring into the department or filling this position from the outside will be required to provide after hours and weekend emergency coverage on a rotating basis (on-call coverage).
  • This position requires a current CDL medical exam certification and will require passing a respirator medical qualification test.

Responsibilities

  • Installs and grades plastic & steel mains and services lines in accordance with CNG’s installation standards.
  • Prepares for, and installs, various types of mechanical fittings used to install & repair all types of main & service piping.
  • Operates pneumatic paving breakers, jackhammers, tampers, compressors, high pressure & low pressure tapping equipment and other tools in a safe and productive manner.
  • Drive truck when required.
  • Helps keep truck, equipment & hand tools clean and orderly.
  • Performs all types of manual labor and other miscellaneous work, as required.
  • Acts as Inspector or Leak Detection Surveyor, as required.
  • Learns and assists in duties of higher classification, as to qualify for promotions.
  • Performs the above in accordance with safety practices of the Company.
