About The Position

Leidos is seeking a Distribution Field Technician who is passionate about electric utility design engineering. The role requires dedication to ensuring exceptional quality in every project, no matter the complexity. The technician will work directly with clients to uphold Leidos' reputation for high-quality work. This position involves working through a contractor with the potential for conversion to a direct Leidos employee after 6-12 months. Technicians will gain expertise in areas such as NESC, Structural Pole Modeling, Electrical Power Calculations, GIS design, Project and Financial Management, and Client Design Standards.

Requirements

• High school diploma and 1 - 3 years of prior relevant experience.
• Basic understanding of distribution systems.
• Understanding of NESC standards.
• Ability to think critically to determine when additional data should be collected.
• Candidates must be able to work in both team and independent environments.
• Ability to organize work to meet deadlines.
• Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.) required.
• Ability to learn and use Apple products.
• Excellent verbal and written communications skills.
• Valid Driver’s License.
• Ability to utilize cell phone and 8MP camera.

Nice To Haves

• Experience within the power distribution field.
• AS/BS in engineering (or related STEM Field).
• Experience in GIS with knowledge of Esri products or other GIS data collection software.
• Prior experience doing field work and distribution component identification.
• Knowledge of NESC Standards and Client Standards is helpful.

Responsibilities

• Travel to collect GIS data, field measurements, and photos of utility poles identified for new communications attachments.
• Document locations and collect necessary data for Leidos designers to create solutions and fixes.
• Use a measuring device (e.g., hasting stick) to measure pole attachment heights and utility-owned distribution lines/attachments.
• Collect field data using Leidos proprietary software to update utilities GIS and make design determinations.
• Meet weekly goals and expectations set by the supervisor.
• Communicate status and progress effectively to the supervisor.
• Perform field and office work.
• Work long days in outdoor environments.
• Follow Leidos safety procedures.
• Report progress daily.
