2027 Summer: Distribution Engineering Intern (Waltham, MA-Hybrid Schedule)
About The Position
Eversource’s Engineering Internship provides hands-on exposure to the energy industry, professional development, coaching, and training. Interns contribute to projects and participate in leadership exposure, skill-building sessions, career exploration, networking, and volunteer opportunities. The Distribution Engineering team provides engineering, design, and equipment expertise for distribution line and substation facilities. The intern will gain foundational knowledge of electric utility distribution system design and operations, engineering principles related to electric reliability and system performance, and how engineering teams support safe, reliable electric service. The role is primarily office-based, with occasional field observations and site visits under supervisor guidance, and offers collaboration with utility engineering professionals on real-world infrastructure projects. The position is in Waltham, Massachusetts, with a hybrid schedule.
Requirements
- Must be pursuing a bachelor's degree in Engineering; Electrical Engineering is preferred, with Mechanical Engineering or a similar field also considered.
- Some technical and analytical background and experience are required.
- Applicants requiring visa sponsorship to start employment with Eversource will not be considered.

Responsibilities
- Gain foundational knowledge of electric utility distribution system design and operations.
- Learn engineering principles related to electric reliability and system performance.
- Develop technical, analytical, and project management skills.
- Build experience working with engineering drawings, circuits, and utility infrastructure.
- Enhance communication and customer service skills through interaction with internal stakeholders.
- Gain insight into how engineering teams support safe, reliable electric service.
- Assist during emergency restoration when assigned, potentially outside normal responsibilities, work hours, and location.
