About The Position

WSP is seeking an experienced Distribution Engineer to join our Power & Energy Distribution Services Team in our Fort Worth, TX or Tyler, TX office. This role involves developing detailed designs for medium voltage electric distribution systems (120/240V – 24.9kV), ensuring compliance with client requirements, safety standards, and budget/schedule constraints. The engineer will produce construction-ready drawings, perform system layouts and material estimates, coordinate with stakeholders, and support projects from design through construction. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering (or equivalent experience).
  • 3 to 5 years of relevant post-education experience in designing medium voltage power distribution systems in utility or industrial/commercial environments.
  • Engineer in Training Certification.
  • Proficiency in GISWorks’ Distribution Design Studio (DDS).
  • Exposure to operations and project controls experience for reporting purposes.
  • Knowledge of electrical engineering principles, practices, process, design/build, and application to permitting and project work.
  • Experience with infrastructure planning, design, and construction management, including rehabilitation and new design.
  • Ability to coordinate with agency regulators and understand requirements.
  • Knowledge of relevant engineering and electrical construction laws, codes, regulations, compliance practices, and record-keeping requirements.
  • Capable interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Effective self-leadership with attention to detail, results orientation, and managing multiple priorities.
  • Ability to learn new techniques, perform multiple tasks simultaneously, follow instructions, work independently, and comply with company policies.
  • Moderate proficiency with technical writing, office automation, software, technology, math principles, predictive models, spreadsheets, and tools.
  • Experience with discipline-specific design software (DDS, STORMS Work Management, CAD).
  • Critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
  • Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical work week.

Nice To Haves

Responsibilities

  • Assist in creating and reviewing third-party design documents, procurement lists, and project plans.
  • Support senior engineers with research and recommendations of fundamental components, field equipment applications, and operations.
  • Prepare data and visualizations such as tables, charts, reports, sketches, calculations, and illustrations.
  • Maintain quality control standards for calculations, analysis, and reporting.
  • Work collaboratively with engineers, drafters, designers, and construction professionals to execute project work, lay out designs, calculate costs, and ensure conformity with specifications and standards.
  • Assist with the development and scoping of small- to medium-sized projects.
  • Contribute to the preparation of technical reports and presentations.
  • Conduct engineering studies and surveys.
  • Assist in the analysis, evaluation, and interpretation of data from field investigations and develop action plans for risk mitigation.
  • Assist in the preparation and implementation of site Health and Safety Plans (HASPs).
  • Collaborate with other engineers and disciplines on projects with electrical infrastructure authorities.
  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
