About The Position

Georgia Power, a subsidiary of Southern Company, is seeking an Engineer, Engineering Associate, or Engineering Representative for the Atlanta Distribution Area. The position can be filled at one of two locations in Atlanta, GA. The role involves handling day-to-day engineering work, including service design, estimating, and coordinating construction for various projects. The candidate will be responsible for meeting service dates, writing and executing switching orders for system reliability, and processing documentation according to compliance requirements. Other duties include handling customer inquiries (e.g., voltage complaints, claims), assisting with distribution compliance and asset management, and participating in an on-call trouble supervision rotation, requiring availability after business hours for trouble and storm restoration. The position emphasizes superior customer service and adherence to safety practices.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering (From ABET Accredited School) OR Bachelor's Degree in Engineering Technology OR Bachelor's Degree in Math or Science OR Professional Engineer's License (PE) in lieu of the above bachelor's degree (for Engineer or Engineering Associate position).
  • A two-year technical degree, OR four-year degree in a nontechnical field, OR EUT Certificate with two years of utility experience is preferred but not required (for Engineer Representative position).
  • Must have valid driver’s license.
  • Must have a safe work record and successfully follow safe work practices & policies for a Safety Excellence environment.

  • Must have at least one year of verifiable driving experience.
  • Must hold a valid driver’s license for the class vehicle to be operated.
  • Must have no revocation of driving privileges within the 36 months prior to application.
  • Must have no convictions of major traffic violations (DUI, hit and run, reckless driving, etc.) within the 12 months prior to application.
  • Must have no pending charges for a major traffic violation at the time of application.
  • Must consent to a continuous monitoring of your Motor Vehicle Record.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous Distribution Engineering Experience is a plus.
  • Distribution and or related Engineering experience with a power utility company is a plus.
  • Proficient with MS office products and other related engineering Software systems highly desired.
  • Strong Technical Engineering Skills and understanding of Power Systems are highly desired.
  • Candidate should possess knowledge of general engineering and construction principles.
  • Knowledge of electrical system operations, distribution systems, underground and overhead construction practices.
  • Prior experience in writing and executing switching orders preferred.
  • Working knowledge of ARMS, JETS/JETS Scheduling, Designer/GIS, CSS, Socket, DistView, TCMS Web, NJUNS, and OFS (Oracle Field Scheduling) preferred.
  • Knowledge of the Franchise Manual, Distribution Bulletins, Engineering Handbook/Specifications, Distribution Operating Procedures, ARC Flash Requirements, Metering Blue Book, Consistency Manual and the Financial and Business goals preferred.
  • Working knowledge of NESC.

Responsibilities

  • Handle all day-to-day engineering work activities in an assigned area.
  • Perform service design, estimating, and coordinating construction for overhead and underground residential, new business, and other construction projects.
  • Prepare and schedule construction of jobs to meet committed service dates.
  • Write and execute switching orders to maintain, operate, and assist in the distribution planning of the system for reliability.
  • Process all documentation in accordance with Compliance requirements.
  • Handle customer inquiries, including voltage complaints and claims.
  • Assist with Distribution compliance and asset management programs.
  • Participate in the on-call trouble supervision rotation and be available after business hours for local, out-of-town, and out-of-state trouble and storm restoration.
  • Provide superior customer service.
  • Be available to participate in storm restoration.
  • Provide services necessary for supervisor on-call responsibilities.
  • Develop and maintain a thorough knowledge of Georgia Power and Southern Company distribution construction practices, guidelines, and procedures.
