About The Position

ENTRUST Canada is currently seeking a Distribution Engineer P.Eng. to join our team. Operating with a high degree of autonomy you will work within engineering teams to deliver overhead and underground distribution line design projects for utility and industrial customers. Leading a small, focused engineering team may also be involved. This position would appeal to individuals who enjoy working closely with clients and engaging hands-on in solving technical and logistical problems to achieve successful outcomes. Requirements

  • Electrical or Civil Engineering degree with P.Eng. registration in a provincial Engineering Regulator (e.g., APEGA).
  • Minimum of 3 years' experience in distribution project design.
  • Experience using powerline design software such as CYMCAP, Pull-Planner, PLS-CADD, SPIDAcalc, Quick Pole, or similar.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proven attention to detail, and skill in organization and time management in the successful completion of tasks.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office 365.
  • Strong computer skills including virtual private networks, and the ability to efficiently learn new software packages.

Nice To Haves

  • Project management experience is an asset.
  • Design experience with transmission lines or substations is an asset.
  • Experience using AutoCAD or MicroStation is an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Develop new overhead and underground designs using client standards, industry codes and practices, internal ENTRUST Canada procedures, and your knowledge of distribution electrical system construction, operation, and maintenance.
  • Prepare non-standard designs leveraging your knowledge and experience, in collaboration with internal subject matter experts and the external client.
  • Complete electrical and structural engineering calculations using industry and client tools such as CYMCAP, Pull-Planner, PLS-CADD, SPIDAcalc, Quick Pole, ALD, and DSA.
  • Prepare estimates, material take offs, and scopes of work.
  • Produce survey and construction prints and packages using industry and client software such as Office 365, ArcGIS, AutoCAD, MicroStation, AM/FM, AUD, and DAD.
  • Conduct site visits for field reconnaissance during the project design phase and field inspections during the project construction phase.
  • Effectively collaborate with clients, external stakeholders, and internal team members to produce engineering products that meet quality, schedule, and cost requirements.
  • Review designs prepared by others against client standards, industry codes and practices, and internal ENTRUST Canada procedures.
  • Provide training and mentoring to less experienced designers in technical and interpersonal subjects.
  • Complete specialized technical assignments and prepare engineering study reports.
