About The Position

Responsible for assisting in the safe and reliable operation, dispatching and restoration of facilities for the AEP Distribution System as assigned. This role involves promoting and enforcing safety programs, adhering to company policies, and operating communication equipment. The associate will track crew locations, dispatch personnel to emergencies, authorize restoration of facilities, and maintain accurate records of outages and equipment status. Critical decisions affecting reliability and customer service priority will be made, requiring the ability to work under pressure and manage diverse situations simultaneously. Failure to issue correct instructions could impact personnel safety, public welfare, equipment, revenue, and company reputation. This position requires successful completion of required training and testing to progress within the classification.

Requirements

  • Associate degree in electrical or electronic technology OR Bachelor of Science in any field or equivalent education and/or experience.
  • Successful completion of the System Operator/Power Dispatching Selection System (SOPD) test is required.
  • Rotating shift work required.
  • Must maintain a high availability for call-out response.
  • Applicants must live within or be willing to relocate to within 30 minutes of the reporting location.
  • Must satisfactorily complete required training and testing to progress to the next level within the Distribution Dispatcher Associate classification within 2 years and to the Distribution Dispatcher classification within 4 years or vacate the position.
  • Must be able to work under pressure during periods of critical system conditions and deal with diverse situations simultaneously.
  • Must be able to make critical decisions affecting reliability and priority of service to customers.

  • Effectively operate company communication equipment.
  • Track crew locations and ongoing work on the distribution system.
  • Dispatch service personnel to respond to outage and emergency situations.
  • Authorize the energizing and restoration of distribution facilities.
  • Maintain accurate outage records.
  • Maintain accurate records of abnormal and defective equipment for distribution facilities.
