About The Position

This position is responsible for meeting with customers to determine their electric needs and requirements. The role involves designing jobs to install, replace, or remove distribution facilities to support customer requests, reliability projects, or infrastructure improvement. The primary responsibility will be to manage multiple distribution projects for new residential and commercial businesses, including meeting with customers, designing overhead and underground line extensions, estimating costs, preparing construction drawings, and coordinating construction commitments. The role also includes coordinating and leading pre-design and pre-construction meetings, performing engineering calculations, providing technical support for distribution design standards, aiding with permit and ROW acquisition, and assisting with storm restoration efforts.

  • Designer I: Bachelor’s degree (any discipline) OR 2-year Technical Associates degree OR 1-year Electric Utility Distribution (or Transmission) Design experience OR > 2 years of Electric Utility field operational experience (Transmission Line or Substation, Distribution Line or Service, Field Metering) OR Department Sr. Manager’s (or above) approval.
  • Designer II: 2 years Electric Utility Distribution (or Transmission) Design experience AND Bachelor’s degree (any discipline) OR 2-year Technical Associates degree OR 2 additional years Electric Utility Distribution (or Transmission) Design experience OR > 2 years of Electric Utility field operational experience (Transmission Line or Substation, Distribution Line or Service, Field Metering) OR Department Sr. Manager’s (or above) approval.
  • Designer III: 4 years Electric Utility Distribution (or Transmission) Design experience AND Bachelor’s degree (any discipline) OR 2-year Technical Associates degree OR 2 additional years Electric Utility Distribution (or Transmission) Design experience OR > 2 years of Electric Utility field operational experience (Transmission Line or Substation, Distribution Line or Service, Field Metering) OR Department Sr. Manager’s (or above) approval.
  • Designer Sr: 6 years Electric Utility Distribution (or Transmission) Design experience AND Bachelor’s degree (any discipline) OR 2-year Technical Associates degree OR 2 additional years Electric Utility Distribution (or Transmission) Design experience OR > 2 years of Electric Utility field operational experience (Transmission Line or Substation, Distribution Line or Service, Field Metering) OR Department Sr. Manager’s (or above) approval.

Responsibilities

  • Manage multiple distribution projects for new residential and commercial businesses.
  • Meet with customers to determine their service needs.
  • Design overhead and underground line extensions.
  • Estimate costs for projects.
  • Prepare construction drawings.
  • Coordinate construction commitments.
  • Coordinate and lead pre-design and pre-construction meetings with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Perform engineering calculations (e.g., load studies, revenue justification, fault current, voltage drop).
  • Provide leadership and technical support to local operations regarding distribution design standards and practices.
  • Aid local Right of Way agent with acquiring permits and ROW documents.
  • Assist with storm restoration efforts as needed, including damage assessment activities.
