The Distribution Designer I will perform field data collection, detailed design of overhead and/or underground electric distribution systems and back-office work to support those functions. This work includes gathering field data for designs, entering the information into various programs and the preparation of field notes, drawings, specifications and estimates as defined by the client’s scope of work document.

Requirements

  • Associate Degree or the equivalent in a technical field preferred. Minimum of 2 years relevant experience required with no degree.
  • DEG Management may consider other education and work experience to be acceptable for appointment to this position.
  • Shall have demonstrated leadership and technical capability to perform to job duties and responsibilities.
  • Complete the DEG Qualification-General template.
  • Initiate and maintain the DEG Engineering Qualification template for the appropriate Job Title.

Responsibilities

  • Design and prepare independently, construction orders related to overhead, underground facilities associated with electric distribution systems applying prescribed standards, guides, specifications, and procedures.
  • Gather equipment information in the field for design using a variety of tools including a Trimble GPS device and a Hastings Stick.
  • Preparation of field notes and design using a variety of data collection tools including DDS and other client tools.
  • Transfer field notes to a structural design and contribute to the preparation of cost estimates, specifications, evaluation, and requisitions.
  • Preparation of computer assisted design and construction drawings of a complex nature with neatness and a minimum of errors.
  • Perform design services requiring a full understanding of drawings, specifications, and industry and company standards covering the assigned work.
  • Preparation of engineering calculations (pole loading, guying, transformer sizing, conductor loading / sagging).
  • Coordinate design development to meet project schedules.
  • Achieve weekly billable goal as defined by the project guidelines.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
