About The Position

Join Leidos as an Associate Distribution Engineer and launch your engineering career in electric utility distribution design. Requirements

  • BS degree in Engineering or related field (less than 2 years of relevant experience)
  • Basic knowledge of electric distribution design principles and engineering calculations
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office; familiarity with collaborative platforms like MS Teams
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills; proven ability to collaborate with diverse teams and clients
  • Willingness and ability to work in both field and office environments, including driving to utility pole locations as needed

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with medium voltage switchgear, voltage conversion, or distribution automation projects
  • Exposure to complex cable/conduit design in dense urban settings
  • Skills in ESRI, AutoCAD 3D, or similar GIS/CAD tools
  • Experience developing civil and electrical design packages

Responsibilities

  • Develop design and construction work packages for overhead and underground electric distribution systems (4kV–138kV) using GIS, CAD, and work management systems
  • Perform engineering calculations, including pole structural analysis, guying, cable pulling, electric demand, fault current, and protective device coordination
  • Identify and resolve conflicting utilities and field engineering project requirements
  • Prepare forestry trimming requests, permits, Right-of-Way acquisition, Bill of Materials (BOM), and cost estimates
  • Support client communication, customer advocacy, and acquisition of easements or CIAC calculations
  • Ensure compliance with project scope, schedule, budget, and quality control standards
  • Participate in both field data collection and office-based design tasks, with occasional local or regional travel
  • Contribute to team execution of deliverables and respond to assigned and ad hoc project needs
